Context Presentation:

Un Ponte Per (UPP) is an Italian NGO established in 1991. It started its activities as “Un ponte per Baghdad”, in the aftermath of the first Gulf war, with the aim of organizing solidarity initiatives in support of the Iraqi civilian population. In subsequent years, UPP missions expanded to include Serbia and other Middle Eastern and Mediterranean countries. The NGO aims at preventing armed conflicts, protecting human rights and supporting local civil society, especially in the Middle East, by promoting the nexus between its humanitarian, peacebuilding and development programs.

General scope of the position

Under the overall supervision of the project manager the Social workers will be working in a mobail unit in (Amman, Zarqa and Irbid). S/he will be responsible in general for implementing the project activities, conducting the assessments, providing help and support for the cash withdrawal and provide referral services. Whist maintaining good communication pathways with the beneficiaries, partners, and local CBO

Job Overview/Summary

A social worker is a professional who helps individuals and communities cope with various social and emotional challenges. The primary objective is to improve the overall well-being and quality of life of clients by assessing their needs, advocating for their rights, and providing support and interventions. The Social worker will work within the framework of a project funded by the Italian Cooperation Agency (AICS): “Masahat Aamina (Safe spaces): “Spazi protetti per l’inclusione sociale e la protezione integrata delle persone particolarmente vulnerabili tra i rifugiati e le comunità ospitanti in Giordania”.

UPP and partner CBO protection services in Jordan include case management; structured PSS; capacity building of service providers and local governmental stakeholders; raising awareness on GBV, child protection risks; life-skills for adolescents and caregivers and conversation clubs for women and girls with disabilities delivered directly by UPP and local partners. UPP and partners also implement complementary health/rehabilitation activities such as distributions of mobility aids for persons with disabilities, one-shot cash assistance and livelihood opportunities for the most vulnerable.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Un Ponte Per is looking for one social worker that will be responsible of the following major tasks:

  1. Conduct initial assessment that includes creating referral plan and information provision according to the beneficiary’s needs
  2. Advise cases in need of help and services available to them (information provision).
  3. Assist in providing needed information into the case management database and ensuring regular update
  4. Refer cases through the designated referral pathway, ensuring the confidentiality of the cases.
  5. Maintain good relationships with partners, stakeholders, CBOs.
  6. Assist beneficiaries in case of issue with cash withdrawal.
  7. Work on creating and utilizing a database regularly, ensuring it is consistently updated.
  8. Submit progress and/or activities reports on a bi-weekly basis to the project manager.
  9. Participate effectively in meetings with the project staff.
  10. Maintain regular and clear communication pathways with the project staff in Amman.
  11. Updating the project staff on any risks and challenges in the field and to provide input based on her/his observation.
  12. Work closely with the partner, local staff, and project staff to ensure proper coordination is being implemented.
  13. Prepare monthly plans for the activities.
  14. Assisting in the procurement planning for the activities and ensuring to request any material needed for the activities ahead of time.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • bachelor’s degree in psychology, Social Work or any related field
  • At least two years professional technical experience including a minimum of 1 year in similar position
  • Excellent interactive training and facilitation skills.
  • Good communication skills including ability to gain trust and build relationships with new communities
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word.
  • Strong reporting skills and English is highly preferred.

UPP requires criminal background check certificate (released max 3 months before the date of job offer) to confirm a job offer. We are aware that in some countries the release of criminal background certificate by the competent authorities might require several weeks. Thus, we kindly ask all candidates to get prepared on time and be able to submit their certificate promptly in case of success in the selection.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience in main donors funded project (EU, UN, AICS, etc.).
  • Experience in Emergency projects management.
  • Knowledge of the Middle East context and relevant local actors.
  • Knowledge of Italian is an asset.
