Remuneration: $2,500 – $3,300 per month, depending on level of experience and qualifications, plus benefits.

MAGENTA’s Middle East team is currently implementing a USG funded project that seeks to address the root causes of Technology-Facilitated Gender Based Violence (TFGBV) in Erbil, Iraq. TFGBV reduces women and girl’s ability to actively participate and contribute to public life online and offline. Supported by audience insights and research, this project will (1) capacity build Iraqi Youth with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves and take actions as bystanders and (2) will conduct a multimedia campaign on TV, radio and digital channels that seeks to transform existing harmful social norms around TFGBV.

The Social Media Manager will be responsible for setting-up and managing the social media assets for this campaign by developing and creating content, administering online engagement, leveraging offline activities (through the capacity building element) to create content and drive engagement, and working closely with the creative agency to commission video and other content. The Social Media Manager will use a data-driven social media analytics approach to growing reach and engagement of the social media assets.

Responsibilities

The Social Media Manager will have overall responsibility for creating and managing the campaigns digital social media assets. Typical tasks include:

Key Functions

  • Using findings from formative research and with advice from creative communications consultants, the Social Media Manager will set-up new digital channels that are appropriate for the campaign and be responsible for community building and organic acquisition of followers.
  • Develop and implement a robust social media strategy (including user-generated content) to support the overall strategic communications campaign.
  • Develop weekly content calendar to support the overall strategic communications campaign.
  • Identify relevant social media influencers and activists to develop effective partnership for them to relay the campaign on their social media channels.
  • Writing social media posts, producing short videos, and responding to comments from the community. This will require the Social Media Manager to have, or develop, subject matter expertise on TFGBV, GBV and protection issues, so that online engagement is sensitive and appropriate to the context.
  • Moderating social media assets and removing content that contravenes the “page rules” and ensure that comments/engagements are replied to in a timely manner.
  • Work with creative communication consultants, the Project Manager and creative design agency to commission video and other content.
  • Work with youth groups involved in the programme to generate engaging content and while also ensuring that offline activities are captured on social media.
  • Regularly review social media analytics and make recommendations for new content and design content that will reach and engage the target audience.
  • Responsible for boosting content and ensuring best Value for Money on advertising spend and keeping oversight of social media budget.
  • Responsible for monitoring of the social media, making adjustments as needed.
  • Responsible for monthly reporting against social media strategy KPIs using social media analytics tools.

Requirements & Competencies

Education:

  • Relevant undergraduate degree; Masters preferred. 2 year’s practical experience managing social media campaigns will be accepted instead of a Masters.

Experience:

  • 3-7 years professional experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience managing social media campaigns.
  • Experience in international development or marketing within a communications/campaign function.
  • Prior experience, or willingness to become a subject matter expert, on TFGBV, GBV and protection issues in an Iraqi context.
  • Experience in generating, understanding, and applying social media analytics.
  • Experience ensuring value for money on digital advertising spend.
  • A robust understanding of the traditional and digital media landscape of Iraq and in particular Erbil.
  • Experience as an online or offline social activist (desirable)
  • Good knowledge of social media influencers in Erbil (desirable)
  • Ability to work effectively, respectfully and successfully with governments, clients, partners and other stakeholders in complex settings;
  • Experience working in Iraq and preferably Erbil.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, Arabic and Kurdish.
  • Technological and software fluency, include Office 365, HootSuite/Sprout Social or similar software. Fluency in Adobe photoshop and video editing software a plus.
