MAGENTA’s Africa team will be based in Dakar, Senegal or Nairobi, Kenya operating across Kenya, Mozambique, Lesotho, Senegal, Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, Mauritania, DRC and Cote d’Ivoire. We are looking for exceptional individuals to join this team, driven by a keen desire to deliver social impact and who thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Primary responsibilities of SBC Programme Manager are the following (1) Programme Implementation and (2) Programme Development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The SBC Programme Manager will report to the Regional Programme Director. Typical tasks include:

Programme Implementation (65%)

  1. Manage programmes effectively from inception to close out, including both technical and operational aspects:
  2. Technical:

    • Provide strategic guidance and oversight to project team, including programme officers, consultants, partners and suppliers;
    • Act as the main focal point for MAGENTA’s clients and partners, ensuring effective, constructive and regular communications;
    • Responsible for quality technical leadership of programmes;
    • Monitor programmes and develop contextually appropriate and effective solutions to ensure smooth implementation that delivers impact;
    • Facilitate co-creation and design workshops internally and externally.
    • Design and delivertailored training on SBC as part of the MAGENTA Academy (MAGENTA’s training institute)
  3. Operational:

    • Deliver impactful programmes that achieve the set objectives within the allocated budget and timeframe;
    • Responsible for robust planning at inception phase, developing, maintaining and utilising all programme management tools including detailed workplan, logframe, resource plans and budgeting;
    • Lead all procurement needs for effective programme delivery;
    • Secure and oversee relationships with technical service providers and suppliers (production, data collection, partnerships etc.) to support the Africa team’s programme implementation.

Programme and Business Development (35%)

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships and positioning with clients and strategic partners in Africa.
  • Lead the design and development of innovative SBC programmes, building MAGENTA’s programming in Africa;
  • Secure new business opportunities and contracts and deliver successful client pitches across Africa with follow-on work for existing programmes and expansion in new countries;
  • Represent MAGENTA at conferences and thought leadership events.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Education:

    • Relevant degree from a top tier university required; Masters preferred
  2. Experience:

    • 4-6 years professional experience in the development sector, preferably with a focus on SBC/ Communications for Development (C4D) or strategic communications;
    • Substantial knowledge of international development and/or humanitarian system, institution and donors, and of compliance requirements, experience working with the UN and US Government strongly desired.
    • Ability to work effectively, respectfully and successfully with governments, clients, partners, and other stakeholders in complex settings.
    • Demonstrated expertise in representation and negotiation resulting in securing significant new opportunities for MAGENTA.
    • Knowledge of and experience living in Wester or Eastern Africa strongly desired.
    • Excellent written and spoken French and English required.
    • Technological and software fluency, including Office 365.
