Position Summary

ICAP at Columbia University, a global health leader situated within the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in New York City, seeks a highly qualified candidate to serve as a Research Assistant in New York City. The incumbent will be providing support to Cho-Hee Shrader to meet study needs and data collection requirements.

The candidate will work at ICAP in a study of HIV prevention among Black, Latino, and Caribbean sexual minority men using social network analysis. They will conduct 1) outreach to recruit participants, 2) Zoom interviews with study participants, 3) transcribe qualitative data, 4) survey design, and assist the Principal Investigator in other research activities as needed. The candidate will work 5 – 20 hours each week for up to 4 months.

Subject to business needs, we support flexible and hybrid work arrangements. Options will be discussed during the interview process.

Responsibilities

  • Administer standardized interviews of sociodemographic information, measures of racism and discrimination, HIV prevention strategy history, and the administration of a participant self-administered at-home salivary drug test (25%)
  • Coordinate in the recruitment and outreach of Black, Latino, and Caribbean sexual minority men and their social networks (25%)
  • Obtain written informed consent (25%)
  • Assist the Principal Investigator with duties related to the study such as human subjects research training, data entry, and outreach (20%)
  • Perform other duties as directed. (5%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent in education, training and /or experience.
  • Familiarity with working with computers and data collection software
  • Excellent project coordination/management skills and ability to maintain participant data confidentiality and adhere to study protocols
  • Experience working in urban communities with culturally diverse populations and have a deep commitment to community-engagement and equity.
  • Strong oral/written communication and interpersonal skills through phone, text, and email.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in Jamaican Patois/Patwa or Spanish
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Familiarity with neighborhoods and venues that that Black, Latino, and Caribbean LGBTQIA+ populations live, work, and hang out in.

Other Requirements

  • Travel within NYC may be required for recruitment and outreach
