Who are we?

DanChurchAid (DCA) is a Danish humanitarian, non-government and non-profit organisation working in DRC since 2004. DCA has its main office in Goma but carries out operations throughout the country. The DCA country programme in DRC carries out humanitarian mine action and humanitarian (protection, shelter and NFI, Cash and Livelihoods) interventions.

About the job

The Shelter/NFI Coordinator will contribute to the efficient and effective implementation of the Shelter/NFI intervention of the DCA DRCongo Office, with a responsibility of providing technical support to local partners, monitoring and liaison with local stakeholders and other departments. S/he will also oversee developing internal SOPs for Shelter/NFI responses.

The position is an expatriate position that will be based at the DCA office in Goma, with travels to other DCA field offices expected.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support, guidance, and quality assurance for the work of DCA and local partners
  • Monitoring, on-site and remotely, of the technical work of DCA teams, partners, contractors and suppliers
  • Communication with relevant technical governmental authorities
  • Liaison with local stakeholders and community support groups
  • Support or lead the assessment of technical and humanitarian needs
  • Preparation of bill of quantities (BoQs) and technical specification documents
  • Active role in DCA’s or partners’ procurements as technical focal point
  • Representation of DCA in national and sub-national Shelter/NFI Cluster meetings and other relevant coordination forums
  • Reports writing and providing input to relevant internal DCA documentation
  • Promote and adopt standardized approaches, tools, and formats for common use in shelter programming within the framework of an agreed common shelter strategy. These methods, tools and formats will, when possible, be in line with those promoted by the Shelter Sector
  • Other ad hoc assignments

We are looking for the following qualifications and experience:

  • At least 3 years of experience implementing Shelter activities in an emergency or post-emergency context
  • Education: MA / MSc level (or equivalent field experience) in Engineering or similar technical field
  • Computer literacy essential including proficiency in Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and French
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team, diplomatic skills, proactiveness, punctuality, respect for organizational procedures, processes and deadlines, flexibility, ability to work in a demanding environment, respect for coworkers, ability to set priorities and create and follow plans, good communication and diplomacy skills
  • Good knowledge of shelter-related technical guidelines and standards, including Sphere.
  • Demonstrated empathy and experience in understanding the position and needs of national partners, as well as building their capacity.
  • Should have very good technical knowledge and experience on indigenous architecture materials and construction methods
  • Experience in developing proposals and interventions with Shelter-NFI components.
