As a Senior UX/UI Designer you will help the project teams across the ICRC in building and improving digital products and services to ensure the best experience for the end users. You will be responsible for designing simple, elegant and feasible products that solve complex problems. You will create visual design guidelines and documentation across a variety of digital platforms and deliver high quality designs to the development teams.

accountabilities and responsibilities

We expect the UX/UI Designer to work very closely with:

  • The business analyst. A key criteria for the choice of the candidate will be the ability and experience in successfully integrating UX/UI Design and business analysis activities to ensure coherence of deliverables, full scope coverage and leverage and integration with existing deliverables (business requirements, process and data models);
  • The UX Designer. Depending on the project setup, there will be a UX designer working in parallel to you or there will be previous UX deliverables (persona, user journey, documented user research) provided by other team members or external providers. It is crucial you base your work on this research and work and continue to iterate on it;
  • The development team. Work closely with the development team in an agile set up, ensuring timely and efficient handovers, as well as quality checks once the designs have been implemented;
  • The rest of the project team (including Functional Advisor, Change Manager, Product Owner, and Project Managers). Another key criteria will be the ability to work with different business experts, representatives of the users and end users who are mostly located in the field (remote interactions);
  • The users. Together with the team take a pro-active approach to getting frequent user feedback. You will be the users advocate and have the responsibility of building a user-centric product.

We expect the UX/UI Designer to take the lead on following activities and deliverables:

  • Creating accessible, intuitive digital products and services by clearly understanding the business needs, the user needs and the technical feasibility;
  • Understand and apply the knowledge from previous analysis activities done by the project team, the BA, a UX designer or other project partners into concrete and actionable product decisions,
  • Designing screens for a variety of interfaces and types of projects including the design of low fidelity wireframes and clickable prototypes as well as the design of high-fidelity, pixel perfect designs that can be handed over to the development team;
  • Whilst designs are being developed by the team, maintaining regular check-ins, and ensuring the quality and tracking the progress;
  • Taking a hands-on approach in building & contributing to the ICRC’s design system in a way that can grow and scale and support both internal and external designers and developers in shipping products more efficiently and consistently;
  • Planning and leading usability testing sessions in order to test and iterate on existing prototypes and products;
  • Applying the insights and measuring the results from user research to make product and feature decisions with the team;
  • Being able to accurately scope the work, deliver a design roadmap, inform the team of any changes and delays that may occur in advance.

Deliverables:

Below some examples of deliverables we expect from a UX/UI Designer. This greatly depends on the project content, the project phase and the team setup:

  • Information Architecture, Sitemap (sometimes done by BA or UX designer beforehand);
  • UI style guide and visual guidelines for the specific project, in line with ICRC design;
  • Wireframes – low fidelity (sometimes done by UX or BA, or other external provider);
  • Mockups – level up from low fidelity wireframes, outline of product, filling in the content;
  • Benchmarking, mood boards, visual competitor analysis and knowledge of UI current trends;
  • Clickable prototypes – in high fidelity design, clickable prototypes that can be tested with users and stakeholders, simulating real interactions;
  • Testing guides for usability tests;
  • Documentation of insights from usability tests with design decisions explained;
  • High Fidelity Design to approve with stakeholders and for handover to developers;
  • Design documentation throughout the process.

  • Geographical Remit: Global;
  • Provides high-level expertise and advise multi-stakeholders projects on user experience design.

RELATIONSHIPS

  • Internally, interacts with key user communities, other User Experience Designers and teams and development partners, ICT Projects Managers and Platform owners, ICT Field Management and senior stakeholders in the Field and Head Quarter;
  • Externally, interacts with local suppliers and with other organizations or partners.

Minimum Requirements and competencies

  • University degree in multimedia, graphic design or communication, Computer Science) or professional diploma in digital design/visual communication, human factors, computer interaction, behavioural psychology;
  • Certification in Design, User Experience/User Interface (UX/UI) Design or similar;
  • 8 -10 years professional experience in the field of Design, including 5-7 in UX/UI Design role;
  • Experience in facilitating high-level interactive workshops;
  • Experience with user research and agile project methodologies;
  • Experience running design sprints and design thinking workshops;
  • Experience in creating low and high-fidelity prototypes;
  • Experience with creating product/service strategies and product visions;
  • Experience performing usability testing sessions and using the insights to make product decisions;
  • Experience building and scaling a design system from scratch;
  • Agile certification, project management, or business analysis certification is a plus;
  • Proven experience working with global teams in a large organization or on global products.
