Senior Specialist – IT Network & Security

Specific Accountabilities

  • Attends various district meetings for the purpose of communications and/or gathering information for the purpose of actively working to build healthy partnerships throughout the district to better serve our customers in meeting their business objectives.
  • Collaborates with IT unit and district personnel for the purpose of meeting end-user needs with the best possible solutions according to district standards for the purpose of actively working to build healthy partnerships throughout the district to better serve our customers in meeting their business objectives.
  • Install new / rebuild existing network routers and switches, and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
  • Manages under appropriate supervision, district’s network resources, network operating systems, email systems, and related components for the purpose of architecting, delivering and maintaining a reliable and stable technology infrastructure appropriate to support the core instructional mission of the district.
  • Hands on experience in the Cisco security appliances like ASA, ISE, IronPort web security and Email security appliances. Maintaining the Cisco IP Telephony and the video conference units, Cisco Wireless Network and Network Monitoring devices.
  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for network administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
  • Researches resources and methods (e.g. journals, literature, vendor information, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining current working knowledge of new and emerging technologies as well as district/state/federal rules, regulations, and policies for the purpose of architecting, delivering and maintaining a reliable and stable technology infrastructure appropriate to support the core instructional mission of the district.
  • Takes a leadership role in cost/benefit and performance analysis of technology solutions and vendor proposals for the purpose of ensuring appropriate district technology investments and efficient operations.
  • Takes a leadership role in developing best practice methods, processes and procedures for WAN/LAN and data center operations, monitoring, maintenance, and implementations for the purpose of ensuring appropriate backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity needs are in place to support district needs.
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all network hardware, resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups. Secures network by developing network access, monitoring, control, and evaluation; maintaining documentation
  • Apply patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary. Upgrade and configure network system software that supports infrastructure applications per project or operational needs.

Education required:

  • Bachelor Degree in Network and Security or related field from an accredited College or University.

Years & Field of Experience required:

Essential

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience directly related to the areas of responsibility indicated in the position description including:
  • Managing active and passive network systems.
  • Monitoring, diagnosis and optimization of large TCP/IP networks,
  • Managing Windows based multiple server systems including DNS, DHCP, and Proxy configuration management.
  • Managing Cisco switches, routers and firewalls including multi Vlan configurations.
  • Managing hardware based network management devices such as caching and intrusion detection systems.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Desirable

  • Proficiency in Arabic language.
  • Experience in working in a multicultural work environment.
  • Experience in Linux environments specifically Red Hat Enterprise.
  • Experience in management and configuration of telecommunication systems, particularly Voice over IP systems).
