About the Unit

Yara aims to grow nature positive food future and is leading the development of sustainable agriculture and digital tools to contribute to solving global agricultural challenges. We have a worldwide presence with sales teams in ~150 countries and around 17,000 employees.

Drawing on over a century of crop nutrition experience, Yara established the Digital Ag Solutions (DAS) unit 4 years ago to explore how technology could be used to impact farmer livelihoods and productivity. Today, DAS has built products for smallholder and professional farmers, retailers and other farming ecosystem stakeholders across Asia, Africa, the Americas and Europe. In the next phase central enablement platforms will be delivered for Regional Digital Teams to develop all end-to-end customer journeys from incubation, solution development to commercial scale up.

In Region Europe we are building a team of engineers, data scientists, researchers and designers to achieve Yara’s goal to responsibly feed the world and protect the planet. Join us in building new digital products and services to create value for stakeholders across the agricultural ecosystem in Europe. The role reports to VP Farming Solutions Europe Digital.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple teams of developers, quality engineers and solution architects across different technologies.
  • Set the department’s engineering culture, measure its efficacy, and lead by example.
  • Oversee the individual development needs of each person and ensure they are challenged and given scope to leverage and grow their strengths.
  • Provide high level leadership and technical direction to the tech teams. Support complex technical problem solving as needed.
  • Coordinate with other functional leads within the group to ensure that developers are working on the right projects.
  • Drive delivery and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Develop the Engineering Team to drive product delivery supporting the Europe Strategy.

Profile

  • A degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology or have a similar experience.
  • 5+ years of software development management experience, preferably in delivering B2B and/or B2C products/services/content
  • Multi-team management (2+ development teams) experience across end-to-end development of mobile and web apps (Android, iOS), comprising of permanent employees as well as vendor teams.
  • Solid understanding of agile digital principles and development team strategies.
  • Significant experience as a successful software development leader in large scale, highly available Internet and mobile applications. Experience working for a start-up or scale-up is preferred.
  • Comfortable working with our languages and frameworks: Typescript, Node.js, Python, Postgres, GraphQL, ReactJS, ReactNative
  • Comfortable working with our tools: AWS, Github, Kubernetes, Jira, Docker
  • Aligned with our principles: agile, customer-centric, lean, service-oriented architecture, self-organization, transparency.
  • Strong communication skills and can act as an advisor, coach, mentor, and partner all at the same time.
