Overall purpose of role
- Managing all aspects of Structured Lending for Credit Risk within the Private Bank (“PB”) credit portfolio, including effectiveness of process and controls, managing overall risk profile of structured lending credit business, monitoring Risk Appetite utilisation and other Risk limits.
- Sanctioning credit transactions across the full suite of PB credit products; and providing sanctioning support to other PB Sanctioners covering primarily complex products and/or complex wealth/ownership structures.
- Leading on Structured Lending credit transactions from a Risk perspective, including complex transactions in both property (e.g. property development) and financials securities/assets (e.g. investment leverage on illiquid securities).
- Support the development of the structured lending product suite within PB, engaging with Front Line work streams and providing Risk input and challenge.
- Delivering credit decisions to support the strategic ambitions of PB whilst operating within the risk appetite framework set for the business through industry mandate and scale limits and adherence to credit policy and standards frameworks set by Group Risk.
- Monitoring changes in markets and business environments and proactively reacting to any change in the Credit Risk outlook.
- Assisting and supporting PB Chief Credit Officer in leading and developing a high performing and motivated team capable of meeting Future State requirements of the Business.
- Building and maintaining a strong partnership approach and collaborative culture with all key stakeholders in Coverage, Product, Middle Office and the wider Risk Function.
- Exercising daily sanctioning activity in line with discretion level assigned by PB Chief Credit Officer and producing high quality, clear and concise credit recommendations for high value and complex credit transactions to PB Chief Credit Officer and Group Senior Credit Officers.
Key Accountabilities
Credit Risk Management
- Provide an effective and efficient credit risk sanctioning service for PB Structured Lending, ensuring the highest standards of credit risk management across the PB Structured Lending portfolio including adherence to all governance, mandate and scale limits, credit policies, standards, and procedures and within a strong control and conduct risk framework at all times.
- Be accountable to the Head of Credit Portfolio, and re auditors, for all aspects of management of the Structured Lending Credit Risk book, its performance and quality.
- Add value using expert lender experience to support deal teams through early engagement and providing input into shaping and structuring transactions.
- Ensure timely identification of adverse risks within portfolio and early engagement / referral to Special Asset Management where appropriate.
- Represent Credit Risk and act as initial reviewer, contributor, and approver for all Structured Lending New Product Approval requests.
- Lead and participate in broader projects and initatives either for PB or Risk
Business Management
- Ensure effective communication of Structured Lending portfolio status and risk issues with strong collaborative partnership with all key stakeholders through a proactive contact programme with coverage teams and other key stakeholders.
- Develop a strong internal and external network of stakeholders, advisors and professionals, to optimize benefits, promote Risk and develop strategies and solutions in response to changing needs in the market place.
Stakeholder Management and Leadership
- Provide strategic direction, guidance, challenge, and support to inspire and drive high performance in individuals and in the wider PB Risk team to enable them to perform their roles to the highest levels of effectiveness.

Person Specification
- Strong performance track record in leadership and credit risk management at senior level.
- Strategic thinker able to understand market trends and drivers and link concepts and theory into successful business execution.
- Excellent credit analysis and technical skills with proven record of strong commercial application.
- Deep understanding of behavioral drivers of corporate and private bank clients.
- Excellent product knowledge across Corporate, Private Bank, and Capital Markets.
- High level understanding of the macroeconomic factors in our chosen markets.
- Excellent Communication skills, written and oral. Can deliver positive and negative messages and explain technical subjects with clarity and influence,
- Ability to understand and adhere to the Bank’s policies in relation to People, Risk, Governance and Compliance.
- Well organised with the ability to lead multiple work-streams and meet tight deadlines.
- Personal resilience, comfortable with ambiguity, and leading change.
- Strong stakeholder skills – able to build cooperative relationships built on trust.
- Degree level or equivalent business experience.
Desirable Skills/Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in private bank, corporate bank, or investment bank.
