  • Location: London, with flexible working and occasional international travel
  • Contract: 24 months
  • Reporting to: Director of Research and Innovation
  • Responsible for: Consultants and volunteers
  • Salary: £47,819 gross per annum
  • Closing: 22 September 2022 09:00 UK time

This is an exciting new position within the research team in Conciliation Resources’ Research, Advisory and Policy Department. The postholder will work on a range of research and Accord projects related to mediation and peacebuilding. The post would suit someone with research, analytical, editorial, and project management skills.

Person specification

Essential knowledge skills and experience

  • In-depth understanding of conflict and peace processes.
  • Expertise in peace processes and peace support.
  • Excellent editorial skills, including commissioning, editing, editorial management, and working with a range of authors.
  • Excellent English language writing and editing skills for different audiences.
  • Experience of delivering high quality publications and of effective uptake and communication strategies for research findings.
  • Excellent analytical skills and experience of developing findings and recommendations for practice and policy audiences.
  • Knowledge of research ethics, methodologies, safeguarding and risk management strategies appropriate for conflict contexts.
  • Understanding of gender and gender- and conflict-sensitivity in research.
  • Experience of designing and overseeing field research safely and ethically.
  • Excellent organisational and coordination skills, including the ability to think and plan strategically while also retaining close attention to detail.
  • Experience in project management: planning, budgeting, recruiting and time and personnel management, including senior consultants, and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Strong communication skills – written and oral, including public speaking.
  • Initiative, enthusiasm and a problem-solving approach to new challenges.
  • Capacity to listen actively to people from varying backgrounds and with a range of political, cultural, and value orientations.
  • Respect for confidentiality, cross-cultural working and political sensitivity.

Desirable

  • Academic qualification in a relevant field such as international relations, conflict resolution, human rights, gender or development studies.
  • Awareness of relevant actors, policies and policy developments in the conflict resolution and peacebuilding field (UK, EU and/or UN, NGOs and governments).
  • Experience of using online presentation platforms, or multimedia to present research content.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.
  • Monitoring and evaluating impact of research and advocacy.
