ABOUT THE POSITION

This position has been developed together with the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR) in Solomon Islands, and the staff member will be seconded to the MFMR CBRM Unit. The post holder will be supporting the coordination and integration of data on CBRM in the Coastal Fisheries Division. This is a spider in the web function that supports the MFMR in streamlining data on supporting and scaling CBRM. The position will work as part of the CBRM and coastal fisheries staff at the Ministry focusing on data storage and analyses to monitor national CBRM scaling.

The successful candidate have key responsibilities in the following areas:

  • Support coordination and integration of data on coastal fisheries and CBRM at MFMR, building competencies and skills in areas where gaps in capacity and resourcing are co-identified.
  • Support database arrangements and analyses to be shared among MFMR Divisions, Provincial Fisheries Officers and other provincial champions of CBRM in collaboration with MFMR and PFOs.
  • Support the production of regular data outputs in support of monitoring of CBRM scaling and other coastal fisheries plans.
  • Strengthen the collaboration and integration of WorldFish and its CBRM work in support of MFMR and its national policy priorities.
  • Integrate with and support the WorldFish Initiative on Resilience Aquatic Food Systems, including cross-planning activities and outputs with staff in the Initiative.
  • Ensure monitoring and evaluation for consistent documentation and for summarizing the capacity and resourcing requirements towards enabling greater data management and use with MFMR.

Requirements

This job might be for you if you have the below skills and qualifications:

  • Master of Science in statistics, fisheries science, environmental science, or other equivalent fields.
  • At least 5 years’ experience working with data management, preferably in relation to CBRM or coastal fisheries data, is essential.
  • Must be highly proficient in Office 365 software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Proven experience in writing reports and carrying out analytical tasks.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to work with a diverse and different cultural personals/team.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • A creative mind for data visualizations that help communicate data to several audiences, including decisions makers.
  • An understanding on CBRM principles and their practical application in Solomon Islands, to enable accurate use of data for monitoring updates on CBRM scaling.
  • An understanding of the roles of the MFMR and its strategic planning for enabling CBRM at greater scale.

This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position and WorldFish offers a competitive remuneration package. Our Offer

The post holder will be based in Honiara, Solomon Islands. Interviews are expected to begin May/June 2022 and only shortlisted candidate will be notified and expected to attend the virtual interview session. The successful candidate should be available to commence as soon as possible for an initial of two and a half (2.5) year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of contract renewal depending on performance and funding situation.
