Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd (SATCoL) is the trading arm of The Salvation Army in the UK and Republic of Ireland. We were established in 1991 to help fund The Salvation Army’s vital work with vulnerable people in the UK, and today we raise money and encourage reuse and recycling through a network of over 230 charity shops, 2 Superstores, 16 Donation Centres and a rapidly expanding clothing collection division, all of which is constantly growing and developing.

With the support of the British public, we have been able to donate millions of pounds to The Salvation Army – over £43 million has been donated in the last five years alone, helping to fund the extensive and very important work that The Salvation Army carries out- including homelessness and addiction services, care for older people, help at emergency incidents, support for adult victims of human trafficking in England and Wales and a Family Tracing Service.

The Role

This position within our Development team offers an opportunity to develop a strategic approach and to cultivate new relationships with partners. The aim of the role is to increase the tonnage from textile banks within the south of England by engaging and working with our partners, offering solutions and being creative in our approach to recycling and reuse of products. . You will maintain and develop relationships with local authorities; community, civic and local commercial clients to ensure retention of existing business but to also understand the potential market and how we can gain future business growth. In our current climate when environment issues are at the forefront of all we do – this role has the potential to manage high value accounts and explore the ever changing world of reuse and recycling.

Key Responsibilities

  • To identify and develop new Local Authority clients, through outbound calling and face to face visits, negotiating the placement of textile banks on local authority land.
  • To identify and develop, new local commercial and community based clients through outbound calling and face to face visits, negotiating the donation and collection of textiles from their customers and staff, liaising with relevant decision makers and internal stakeholders.
  • To negotiate financially viable contracts and MOU’s ensuring that all stakeholders are fully briefed and able to meet their responsibilities under the terms of the contract.
  • Managing contracts and MOU’s ensuring that the needs of the business are met whilst ensuring an exceptional customer experience, for new and in life customers as measured through customer experience feedback.
  • Build ongoing relationships with Local Authority Recycling Officers to ensure that when tenders and opportunities become available that SATCoL are invited to tender.
  • Support business developments alongside the management and attendance at exhibitions, sales events and local government recycling forums as required

Key Attributes For The Role

  • Experience of customer relationship management with a customer centric mentality
  • Happy to be on the phone, on zoom and in face to face interaction
  • Be able to diary plan and productively develop and maintain a strong sales pipeline.
  • Be a consistent achiever who takes full accountability and ownership for your own development
  • Experience of working with Local Authorities or supporting the processing of tenders would be an advantage
  • Ability to plan your own time, ensuring activities are financially viable and productive
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
