(Senior) Publishing Assistant

The Springer Nature Journals group aims to support researchers in communicating and advancing discovery for a better world. We do this by providing a trusted environment in which researchers can quickly, easily and transparently share their discoveries, data and research stories. 

 

We are seeking a (Senior) Publishing Assistant to help the Eastern Europe Extended Journals team to manage 26k journal articles annually. The portfolio includes 35 Consultants Bureau journals as well as the cooperation with Pleiades Publishing, where we distribute 181 journals and will launch new Open Access journals. The role will be reporting to Vice President Journals, Eastern Europe Extended and be responsible for the operational aspects of the program.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Planning, coordination and making sure the Eastern Europe Extended program schedule is followed including: managing operations of pricing and budget rounds, royalty and EiC payments, periodic reporting, tracking special issue and proceedings supplement leads, preparation of conference exhibits;

  • Handling of general enquiries from within Springer Nature and outside partners (authors, editors, EB members, societies, journal offices, librarians, etc.) in English and (desired, even if with Google Translate) Russian;

  • Keeping journal information, instructions, etc. up to date in JFlow/JFlux, Springer.com, SpringerLink up to date; 

  • Proactively working with the Publishing Performance and Intelligence team to streamline workflows and automate or handover time-consuming repetitive tasks;

  • Cooperation with other team members and SN colleagues to organize meetings with the journal editorial offices and periodic meetings of the Eastern Europe Extended Publishing taskforce, including preparing agenda, presentations, ad hoc reports, collating information/documents, taking minutes;

  • Working closely and effectively with the VP and the team to keep them well informed of upcoming commitments and responsibilities, following up appropriately; support of Heidelberg Journals activities, such as workshops, Town Halls, informal meetings;

  • Cooperation with the wider SN journal group and other Springer Nature departments: production, finance, IT, PDM, SNRIG, editorial rights, permissions, books, marketing, sales;

 

Requirements:

  • Excellent English-language communication skills, both written and spoken

  • Excellent interpersonal skills – relate well with people and ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels

  • Ability to work autonomously, flexibly and responsibly

  • Excellent organizational skills and result-orientation, able to prioritize numerous tasks

  • Be resourceful and proactive in dealing with problems and queries

  • Proficiency in MS-Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and IT-literacy, with a sharp eye for detail

  • Basic knowledge of abstracting and indexing platforms (Web of Science, Scopus)

  • Knowledge of Russian language is a plus 

  • Experience of working with JFlow, JFlux, Finance tools is desirable

The position could either be located in London, Heidelberg or Dordrecht
