We are looking for Senior Publications Officer for the Humanitarian Policy Group (HPG) to help turn complex research into impactful publications. HPG is one of the world’s leading teams working on humanitarian issues, dedicated to improving humanitarian policy and practice through a combination of high-quality analysis, dialogue and debate.

The Senior Publications Officer will ensure the editorial and design quality of HPG and the Humanitarian Practice Network (HPN)’s publications are maintained, working in collaboration with ODI communications colleagues to increase the impact and accessibility of research across HPG’s portfolio.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Managing the publication process and leading the production of HPG and HPN publications. Acting as the primary guardian of HPG and HPN’s brand identities, and working with the HPG Editor to ensure the intellectual rigour and quality of HPG and HPN publications. Ensuring efficient processes, workflows and schedules are in place to enable the timely publication of research. Ensuring a strategic approach to HPG and HPN publications including advancing objectives on accessibility and ensuring research and communications colleagues are working to best practices.

About You

  • Significant publications project management and production experience.
  • Strong IT and design skills, with excellent knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office applications (MS Word and PowerPoint in particular) and DTP (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator).
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage and prioritise tight and often conflicting production schedules.
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofing skills.
  • Experience of briefing and managing relationships with external agencies and freelancers, in particular briefing editors, designers and printers.
  • Good knowledge of social media, digital platforms and web content best practice.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise and communicate with colleagues at all levels of seniority and from different cultures.
