BBC Media Action

BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international charity. We support the independent media essential to democracy and development; and support people facing insecurity, inequality and poverty with information they can trust – to protect health, bridge divides and challenge prejudice. With our partners, we reach millions through creative communication and trusted media, helping people have their say, understand their rights, responsibilities and each other, and take action to transform their own lives.

In Afghanistan, we are a leading organisation in the humanitarian community engagement and accountability sector and are co-lead of the national AAP network. We are now looking for an experienced senior project manager to lead our projects, including our response to the evolving humanitarian needs in the country.

This role will lead BBC Media Action’s project work in Afghanistan, taking responsibility for delivery of capacity strengthening, production and outreach activities as well as managing relationships with and sub-grants to international and local partners. The role will involve significant elements of coordination with our media partners as well as with government, NGO and UN actors working on the humanitarian response, including representation of BBC Media Action within relevant clusters/sectors and multi-agency working groups. Maintaining relationships with donors and ensuring accurate and timely financial and narrative donor reporting will be a key part of the role, as will identifying further funding opportunities related to the humanitarian response and taking the lead on writing successful proposals.

The role reports to our Country Director in Afghanistan, will be part of our in-country senior management team and will deputise for the country director when required.

The successful candidate will have considerable experience of developing and managing media development, humanitarian communications, community engagement and/or accountability projects as well as skills managing complex budgets and knowledge of reporting requirements of donors. You’ll bring an understanding of the global humanitarian system and strong, practical experience of working with Communication with Communities and Community Engagement concepts and techniques. Your experience working alongside a diverse range of partner organisations will be key, as will your ability to manage diverse teams. Your ability to develop and pitch new business ideas will also be important in this role.

12 month fixed term contract.

Regular rest and recuperation breaks will be provided in addition to the usual BBC leave allowance.
