Overview of the position:
Hours: Part-time (80%)
Starting date: April 2024
Duration: limited contract until the end of June 2025 (15 months)
Location: Berlin, Germany
Department & reporting line: MENA Department, reporting to Head of Unit Yemen
Duties and responsibilities
- You ensure timely, constructive and effective communication with donors, partners and stakeholders of the projects
- Within the projects, you ensure activities are planned and delivered to a high standard and continuously monitor and analyse the dynamics of the conflict together with your team to adapt project activities for maximum impact
- You ensure high-quality monitoring of the implementation of the projects and activities
- You provide specific expertise on the context and/or peace process design, multi-stakeholder dialogues and multi-track approaches for the project team and wider Yemen Unit
- You ensure constant development of the area of work, you draft concept notes, project proposals incl. activities and ensure that a consolidated plan for the entire project cycle incl. financial planning/forecasting is in place
- You take over as deputy for your Head of Unit e.g. during times of absence
- You are part of decision-making processes on project staffing and outside consultancies
- You coordinate and cooperate with inhouse-crosscutting roles
- You mentor and advise junior colleagues within your project scope
- Frequent travel (also to high risk areas)
Your profile
- You hold a Master degree (accred. Universities) within a relevant field such as Peace and Conflict Studies, Political Science, International Relations or similar
- You have at least 6 years relevant work experience (project management and in mediation/ peacebuilding/ dialogue)
- You have a proven positive history with managing and guiding/mentoring project teams
- You contribute regional experience in the MENA region, and ideally on Yemen
- You have experience in remote communication & cooperation, working in fragile contexts and diverse teams
- Excellent verbal and written language skills in English and fluent Arabic (at least C1-level)
- Professional skills in the use of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Teams) complete your profile

- You are co-responsible for the strategic fit of the developed concepts/proposal to Berghof’s organizational strategy
