  • As a member of the Global Disaster Resilience Team, this specialist has the function of strengthening disaster resilience capacities in the National Offices with a focus on Compassion’s Asia region. In case of disasters, he/she supports the establishment of the Compassion International Disaster Management Process and Policies in the affected country, advises the operational processes for the disaster response and recovery, provides holistic, efficient, and timely support for participants, their families, and the Compassion program.

    PLEASE NOTE: This is a remote position that will be based in one of Compassion’s Asian countries (The Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, and Bangladesh). Only applicants who are currently living in one of these countries will be considered. Resumes/CVs must be submitted in English.

    What will you do?

    • Act as an advocate to raise the awareness of the needs of children. Understands mandate to protect children. Commit to and prioritize child protection considerations in all decision-making, tasks and activities across the ministry. Abide by all behavioral expectations in Compassion’s Statement of Commitment to Child Protection and Code of Conduct. Report any concerns of abuse, neglect or exploitation of children through Compassion’s internal reporting process and appropriately support responses to incidents if they occur.
    • Uphold and engage in Compassion’s core Cultural Behaviors.
    • Drive the development of global program designs, standards, and training tools in alignment with the ministry’s objectives. Support cross-functional teams to equip National Offices to provide holistic disaster response to caregivers, children, and youth. Strategically support the designs of disaster response and recovery strategies implementation support and learning.
    • Prepare supporting documentation such as quick assessments, disaster locations maps, challenges, and recommendations for the National Office impacted by the disaster.
    • Partnering with the National Offices, define the priorities for the Disaster Response and Recovery Strategy, with particular focus on humanitarian sectors like food security, income-generation activities (livelihoods), nutrition, shelter, protection, WaSH, and other priorities.
    • Support the developing and implementing interventions defined in the Disaster Response and Recovery Strategy for the National Offices. Ensure timely and effective implementation of interventions by: overseeing needs assessments and collaboration with the MERL team; ensuring timely and effective execution of activities; supporting the securing of appropriate resources (human, financial, logistic, communications, etc.); and supporting the establishing and coordinating partnerships, alliances, with clear expectations from all parties, terms, and conditions of the agreement to support the disaster response.
    • Support the design and development of Compassion’s Disaster Response Program models to be implemented globally, including theory, standards, activities, tools and resources, and indicators for interventions. Equip and partner with National Office staff and stakeholders and provide subject matter expertise within the area of specialty.
    • Help the implementation of training and initiatives and educate others regarding disaster risk management, Humanitarian Industry Standards, and best practices.
    • Identify and analyze complex global program process problems and define the scope of activities required to address the issues, including requirement definition, process review, impact assessment, and operational streamlining where appropriate to increase productivity and efficiency in the Disaster Response.
    • As part of the Disaster Resilience Team, provide expertise, coaching, and training at the regional and national level in Preparedness and Disaster Response.

    What do you bring?

    • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
    • At least 5 years’ management or leadership experience in international humanitarian aid, disaster response and recovery programs in Asia.
    • Certification from a nationally or internationally recognized organization in a related field. Formal training in Disaster Risk reduction, Disaster Resilience or disaster management from a reputable training body is preferred.
    • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking in English.

    Travel Requirements: May be required to travel up to 40% of the normal schedule. In case of disaster, can be deployed to support the country affected.
