Internews Network

ABOUT INTERNEWS AND THE WORK

At Internews, we believe everyone deserves trustworthy news and information to make informed decisions about their lives and hold power to account. We conduct our work in partnership with local communities — who are best placed to know what works.

Internews tackles the most pressing digital security issues facing journalists, human rights defenders, and other at risk groups around the world. By fostering a global digital security community for civil society and equipping individuals and organizations with the tools and knowledge to defend themselves against targeted attacks, we empower our partners to operate safely in an increasingly dangerous online environment. You can learn more about our work here: https://internews.org/areas-of-expertise/global-tech/what-we-do/digital-safety/

This position works across multiple digital safety projects, including our work to improve journalist security in Central and Southeastern Europe and our work to make open source privacy and security tools more sustainable and easier to use.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Come join a team of dynamic colleagues and partners who are passionate about promoting digital rights and Internet Freedom. Internews is seeking a full-time Program Associate to support our efforts to promote digital safety for human rights defenders and vulnerable populations across the globe. This is a unique, multi-faceted early career role that offers the opportunity to develop administrative and project management skills and build your understanding of how human rights and technology intersect.

You’re an ideal candidate for this position if you have excellent written and oral communication skills; strong attention to detail; a knack for keeping things moving and on track; the ability to prioritize competing tasks; comfort with taking initiative; a voracious desire to learn; and the desire to help protect human rights defenders, journalists, and marginalized people around the world. We dress casually, laugh easily, and cheer each other on.

This position reports to the Senior Program Officer of Digital Safety.
