Xero

Xero is a beautiful, easy-to-use platform that helps small businesses and their accounting and bookkeeping advisors grow and thrive.

At Xero, our purpose is to make life better for people in small business, their advisors, and communities around the world. This purpose sits at the centre of everything we do. We support our people to do the best work of their lives so that they can help small businesses succeed through better tools, information and connections. Because when they succeed they make a difference, and when millions of small businesses are making a difference, the world is a more beautiful place.

Our culture & values

We’d describe our culture as human, friendly, engaging, supportive, agile and super collaborative.

At Xero, our values underpin everything we do: from the way we work to how we design and deliver our customers. We have five values we adhere to: we strive to connect as humans, to take ownership of our work, to work as great teams, to challenge ourselves to do our best, and to create beautiful experiences. They are an integral part of our brand and resonate outside Xero through to our ecosystem and ultimately our customers.

We have the foundations of a remote-first culture that allows our Product, Design, and Technology team to be spread across the UK and still be productive while enabling a good work/life balance.

The Role:

As a Senior Product Designer at Xero, you will be responsible for designing beautiful, enabling and meaningful experiences that solve genuine customer problems helping businesses to focus on what they love doing. As a seasoned designer you’ll work closely with product, research, and engineering on mid-to-large scale projects within a product area of a portfolio.

You will work closely with the design leadership team within your product portfolio to support our product design vision and ensure consistency, quality of execution, and ultimately deliver real value to our customers.

The Team:

Our Payroll product team is now expanding into the UK and with this expansion, we are looking for a Senior Designer to sit within a cross functional team. We are looking for someone who can design across the spectrum of UX to Visual Design, make strategic decisions and guide the team through research and ideation.

As a permanent remote worker at Xero we want to ensure you are getting the same #beautiful employee experience as our in-office Xero’s. Permanent remote Xero’s will benefit from a virtual ergonomic work assessment and funding to assist with the improvement of your at home work setup. Xero will also fund up to 4 trips a year to your most relevant region Xero office. You are part of our #team and we want to see you thrive!

You will have the opportunity to

    • Promote the value of design and collaborative practice across spheres of influence and participation
    • Conduct desk research including domain and competitor analysis, interaction/design trends and ‘best of’ examples
    • Create frameworks (read wireframes low/high-fi, visual frameworks, content/data models etc) which articulate the components, journeys and elements required to solve ‘the problem’
    • Develop phased design solutions that bridge the gap between a future state and current patterns and other relevant constraints and consideration
    • Use and inform the evolution of XUI, our design system
    • Collaborate with development teams during sprints to provide design QA and problem solve issues as they arise
    • Create the deliverables needed for us to build and ship, defining how our product and features should look and behave throughout interaction flows and journeys (e.g. User flow diagrams, design specifications, experience/interaction specifications etc)
    • Contribute to identifying research opportunities, planning and undertaking research and testing relevant to your product area

We are looking for someone who

    • Is pragmatic and enthusiastic for what you do and loves to find opportunities for design to have an impact on the product and roadmap
    • Can design across the spectrum of UX to Visual Design
    • Shows honesty and vulnerability in stating the areas for improvement. Wants to be mentored/coached in the technical side of things if either UX or UI skills are a growth opportunity
    • Leads discovery work. Experience/appreciation of turning research/data insights into customer focussed solutions. Experience being close to turning research insights into solutions
    • Has the ability to communicate the why behind design decisions to multiple stakeholder levels
    • Experience working closely with product and engineering to create and release product
