Context

Are you an experienced policy and advocacy professional looking to put your skills and experience to a humanitarian course? NRC USA is looking for you.

You will be responsible for leading the development of NRC’s advocacy efforts in the US focusing on NRC’s main areas of interest and key thematic topics. Your mandate will be serving NRC’s Global strategic ambitions and reinforce country and regional capacities on effective policy and advocacy strategies and activities. What you will do

Some of your day-to-day tasks will include:

  • With the Executive Director, establish and lead in the implementation of targeted advocacy toward the US and UN Security Council which would advance the overall advocacy objectives of NRC, with a focus on a limited number of identified crises.
  • Through regular meetings and travel, map-out and represent NRC before key policy-makers in Washington, DC and New York who can effect change regarding priority advocacy issues for NRC.
  • Meet regularly with relevant US officials and civil society representatives to convey NRC messages and to remain informed of important developments and decisions.
  • Convey information to relevant NRC staff in advance of key decision-making forums or pertinent processes and policy developments.
  • Develop, design and support the organization of regular advocacy missions to the US, including visits to New York, for NRC head office and regional and country office staff.
  • Oversee and implement follow-up of NRC delegations, meetings and visits.
  • Represent NRC in key fora

What you will bring

  • University degree in a relevant field (political science, international relations, human rights, international development) is required;
  • Minimum five years relevant professional experience within the humanitarian, development, human rights, foreign policy, or similar field;
  • Experience in or strong knowledge of multilateral/regional organizations is an asset;
  • Strong understanding of the international humanitarian system, policy and practice;
  • Proven experience in representing NGOs, donors or UN agencies in formal settings;
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal;
  • Fluency in a relevant second language such as Arabic or French is an asset;
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and human rights;
  • You must be an American citizen or have permission to work in the US.
