The senior fundraising officer is responsible for generating income from fundraising and, for this purpose, initiating, developing, coordinating and executing fundraising policy and activities. The senior fundraising officer is co-responsible for reporting to donors and may have as focus area the private market, large organizations within the business market and/or the institutional market including funds, governments and/or NGOs. In addition, the senior fundraising officer manages (long-term/complex) strategic relationships.

Within our department, the generation of revenue for the organization is central. We want to build partnerships with other actors to share best practices and learning whilst directing more resources. To this end, a fundraising and partnerships policy is developed, various internal and external marketing and communication activities are designed and implemented, and relations are actively maintained and further expanded.

Position in the organisation

Fundraising activities are developed and executed in collaboration with substantive experts within the organization. You will report to the Manager of Institutional Partnerships and work in a team with other stakeholders.

What will you do and how will you make an impact?

Your job is to shape and drive our strategy to deliver funding over the next five years. To do this you will:

  • Develop a comprehensive fundraising plan
  • Spot and map fundraising opportunities and explore new markets worldwide.
  • Build and nurture relationships with prospective funding partners. You will work collaboratively with various funders and partners, thinking creatively and strategically to maximise opportunities.
  • Create, develop and provide support to produce successful proposals
  • Develop, deliver and report on our fundraising strategy and tactical plans to ensure we achieve our target. This will span our work with trusts, other grant-making bodies, commissioners (such as Local Authorities) and corporates.
  • Test and evaluate our materials, approach and systems to improve the fundraising request and our strategies.
  • Work closely with colleagues across the Terre des Hommes to identify new opportunities and ensure realistic and deliverable partnerships.
  • Maintain and follow up all platforms for engaging and reporting to international donors such as the US and the EU. Be familiar with working with APPEL, PROSPECT, Funding and Tenders Portal, SAMS.

Who are you?

  • The ideal candidate will be committed to the mission and vision of Terre des Hommes and has a proven track record in fundraising. More specifically:
  • Seasoned fundraising professional with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior position, raising money for international development, human rights and/or governance causes
  • Successful fundraising of six-figure and higher grants from donors in both Europe and the US
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and in a team
  • Experience working in a matrixed environment and collaborating with staff across different cultures and time zones
  • Exceptional writing and presentation skills, with the capacity to reach different audiences and on topics with which s/he may not be a technical expert
  • Able to work independently
  • Educated to Bachelor or Masters degree level or equivalent would be desirable.
  • The ability to devise and deliver bespoke and engaging fundraising plans and campaigns
  • Proven stakeholder management and networking skills and the ability to develop strong relationships with colleagues, contacts and stakeholders built on trust and respect
  • Fluent in English is a must, Dutch or French is an asset
