Job Overview

The International Rescue Committee’s (IRC) External Relations (ER) department enables the IRC to respond to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Within ER, the USA Philanthropy team leads on the organization’s work with USA-based High-Net-Worth Individuals. USA Philanthropy’s Leadership Giving team engages, cultivates, solicits, and stewards five- and six-figure gifts and multi-year commitments from high-net-worth supporters of the IRC. We’re seeking an experienced Senior Officer to join our team!

The Senior Officer will help lead the IRC Leadership Giving team by focusing on the Western region of the U.S. of leadership giving prospects (defined as donors, prospective donors, and suspects with wealth capacity ratings of at least $100K and up to $499K), while building a strong pipeline of donor prospects and identifying new, creative, and multifaceted partnerships. This person will craft and implement strategies to cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and prospects with the capacity to give leadership gifts, partnering with the Director and IRC Leadership.

The Senior Officer, Leadership Giving serves a critical role in helping to develop and implement strategies that are informed by high-reaching revenue targets and devise, monitor, and analyze results of initiatives and metrics to guide future endeavors. This person will be expected to understand the needs and performance of donors and prospects, communicate and collaborate superbly with colleagues, business partners, and supporters, think strategically, make recommendations, offer creative solutions, and manage systems to continually grow and improve the IRC’s donor relationships and our pipeline of prospective high-net-worth individuals and families.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of up to 150 high net worth individuals by moving the IRC’s relationship with each through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Design tactics and creative, long term engagement strategy to deepen donor dedication and increase giving.
  • Travel and meet with portfolio of donors, prospects, and suspects across assigned geographies.
  • Implement front-line activities resulting in funds raised personally and when appropriate with leaders and program staff at the high five and six-figure level.
  • Provide dynamic and effective thought leadership for the Leadership Giving team’s efforts towards increased financial revenue and other modes of private sector engagement that support impactful delivery of the IRC’s directive and mission.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the IRC, notably International Philanthropy and Partnerships colleagues and field staff, to align donor and organizational priorities in a way that increases income for the IRC and builds multi­faceted, deep engagement with the organization.
  • Undertake special projects as requested.

Job Requirements

Work Experience:

  • 5+ years of progressive fundraising experience and demonstrated expertise in private sector or major gifts fundraising, or sales, including direct solicitation of donors or clients (preferably in the Bay area);
  • Consistent track record of closing multiple 5- and 6-figure gifts or contracts from a dynamic portfolio, including qualifying prospects and upgrading donors or clients.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Record of developing blended and multi-year funding opportunities.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop creative and nuanced donor strategy often carried out in partnership with program staff or senior leadership.
  • Adaptable to change in a fast-paced work environment while keeping donor priorities at the center of strategy and relationship building.
  • Ability to diplomatically and respectfully collaborate across teams internally, regardless of distance, and garner support for and complete initiatives effectively.
  • Ability to identify, build, and implement processes important to support effective donor relationships.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data.
  • Ability to navigate CRM systems and databases.
  • Dedication to fundraising for international development, humanitarian, human rights, gender and racial equality, social justice, and US immigrant communities.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Advanced degrees and/or related certifications a plus.

Working Environment: This role requires working remotely full-time (i.e., telecommuting). Applicants must have a home or alternate workspace they can effectively complete their work from during regularly scheduled work hours and may be required to share workspace when at the office. A successful candidate must be available to travel domestically as required.

Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
