Senior Officer, Cholera Research

Could you support the coordination of cholera control research for the Cholera Research Agenda?

The Senior Officer, Cholera Research will be responsible for supporting the coordination of cholera control research together with key partners of the Global Task Force for Cholera Control (GTFCC) and for encouraging the use of research evidence to drive cholera control strategies at global and country levels.

About the Role

Reporting to the cholera Country Support Platform (CSP) Coordinator, the role will support and advise the GTFCC and the Technical Working Groups (groups that provide technical expertise on specific topics to inform evidence-based guidance on cholera control) in furthering the cholera research agenda and act as the Research focal point of the GTFCC working in close cooperation with all GTFCC stakeholders on research related activities, gaps and targeted relevant research undertakings.

Additionally, the Senior Research Officer will oversee and drive the implementation of country-specific research uptake plans.

Main Responsibilities

The Senior Officer, Cholera Research will advise upon Cholera research as well as lead on behalf of the GTFCC on external representation and advocacy.

The SOCR will act as a knowledge broker to bridge the gap between research, policy and practice. They will work closely with the GTFCC Secretariat, the Country Support Platform, cholera research community, policymakers and programme officials in countries in order to:

Enable countries to have access to and use the best available research evidence as they put together their National Cholera Control Plans (NCPs);

Support countries to identify and articulate specific research needs;

Create an enabling environment for countries to incorporate research studies into their operational plans;

Strengthen the cholera research ecosystem by fostering collaboration, active sharing of research findings between countries and data sharing.
Provide a framework to enhance coordination of efforts and prevent duplication.

What we are looking for…

Documented writing skills, including track record experience publishing infectious diseases response or control papers in peer reviewed publications

Strong analytical skills and ability to effectively gather and summarize large amounts of information from various sources

Experience with quantitative and/or qualitative research methodologies and experience applying them in a development or humanitarian context

Demonstrated experience in working multi partners programmes

Demonstrated ability to communicate to multiple audiences, including policy makers, donors and academics
