South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust

If you are looking to work in a challenging but rewarding clinical setting then this role on Leo Acute ward may be the one for you. There will be a lot of scope to build on your existing clinical knowledge and experience as well as develop leadership skills as you promote the therapeutic benefits of occupation to service users and colleagues.

You will work autonomously on the ward alongside a band 5 colleague as well as peer support from the OT team onsite and clinical supervision from the Lead OT. An ideal opportunity if you are seeking to step up from Band five or want to gain experience in in-patient services.

  • Career Progression pathways and development opportunities:
We are committed to get the very best out of our staff and support staff in their career aspirations. We have career pathways available, where you will be able to develop your skills and build on your experience to progress into other roles across different specialties. For this role, we offer career pathways to generic and profession specific Band 7 roles. In addition, we offer ongoing training and development within the profession via Corporate OT and locally as well as access to post graduate training and development.
    • Provide a comprehensive, tailored therapeutic programme with a strong occupational rationale for service users admitted to Leo. There is an expectation that this will include individual and achievable goal setting and support with establishing community links and vocational aspirations.
    • Build robust and supportive relationships with service users and carers for the duration of the admission.
    • Develop professional relationships as a senior member of the MDT whilst retaining a sound understanding of the roles and responsibilities essential to ensure a strong occupational therapy presence on the ward.
    • The successful candidate will need to be confident and assertive personally and professionally.

The OT team on site is comprised of a Clinical Lead Band 7 supported by 3 Band six occupational therapists and four band five occupational therapists on the Trust rotation. The team works closely together to maintain a strong professional profile and to support across the range of wards. There are fortnightly Business meetings, protected time each month for CPD and opportunities to supervise and support students on placement as well as ongoing supervision of a band five occupational therapist.
