Summary of the position

The Senior Media and Communication Officer is responsible for the organization’s outreach efforts, responsible for strategic communication, media engagement, and media team leadership. This role involves managing social media account content, media reporting about SAMS, work reports, media strategy reflecting SAMS vision through visual and written media products, covering SAMS activities, newsletter production, and ensuring effective communication with local, regional, and international media outlets.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Work with the Advocacy Manager to implement the media and communications strategy.
  • Controlling the quality of artistic direction of media content corresponding to SAMS vision
  • Lead the Liaison with the SAMS HQ media department and other SAMS departments in Turkey and Syria to provide the needed support.
  • Build and manage the media policies of works in Turkey and Syria.
  • Managing the media team and building their capacity.
  • Lead the media staff inside Syria and Turkey to perform their duties and responsibilities.
  • Evaluating the media staff in Syria and Turkey.
  • Work with the information unit to collect data to create media content.
  • Monitor the visual identity in SAMS facilities in Syria and Turkey.
  • develop the media content creation in accordance with the department’s operational plan.
  • develop the media operation annual plan for SAMS in Turkey and Syria.
  • Draft, format, and disseminate monthly Arabic and Turkish newsletters from the Turkey office to be included in the SAMS newsletter.
  • In coordination with the team leader in Syria, supervise the SAMS media archive to ensure it is maintained, organized, and updated.
  • supervise the media coverage for SAMS and create press summary reports of all major international and national media coverage.
  • Lead the communication with the media and communication focal points from SAMS’s partners.
  • Confirm the credentials and backgrounds of journalists and media outlets who contact SAMS for media requests (e.g. statements and interviews) and offer guidance on best practices in this regard.
  • Maintain and update mailing lists, including media, partners, and other international and Syrian NGOs.
  • Manage SAMS Facebook and Twitter accounts in Arabic.
  • Draft press releases and media-written products when needed.
  • Supervise the media activities related to SAMS events or SAMS participation in other events.
  • Promote and model a positive, professional, and respectful office culture.
  • Regular visits to the field in Syria (at least quarterly)
  • Other duties as assigned.

THE CANDIDATE’S REQUIREMENTS

Mandatory Qualifications required:

  • A university degree in Media, Journalism, or any other related field is Desirable.
  • Proven experience of a minimum of 5 years in communication, multimedia, social media, media strategy, and content creation is mandatory.

Languages:

Fluent in written and spoken in Arabic (native) and Intermediate in English.
