Senior Manager, Lifecycle Growth

GiveDirectly

Location: This role is fully remote. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment Visas in the U.S. or U.K. at this time.

About GiveDirectly

GiveDirectly (GD) aims to reshape international giving – and millions of lives – by providing cash grants directly to the world’s poorest. The Brookings Institution estimates that $70B of cash transfers would be required to eliminate the poverty gap; the aid sector currently spends $135B each year, much of it on evidence-free interventions. GiveDirectly wants to change that, establishing cash transfers as a benchmark for foreign aid – as the index fund is a benchmark for the financial industry – and in the process accelerating the end of extreme poverty.

GD has raised over $700M since launching in 2011, delivered cash to more than 1 million people, and launched offices in 10 countries. We’ve also supported large-scale, experimental research that indicates strong recipient impact of our programs. As a result, GD has been celebrated as one of the most innovative non-profit companies by Fast Company, while the growing cash transfer movement (and GD’s leading role within it) have been featured in the New York Times Magazine, This American Life, Foreign Affairs, and The Economist.

We’re looking for exceptional talent to grow our collaborative, diverse team. Joining GiveDirectly provides the opportunity to work alongside individuals who come from 21 different countries and speak 69 different languages. We’re actively working toward an equitable and inclusive environment for all team members, and seek candidates who will bring diverse perspectives and experiences to our organization. We recruit from organizations across all industries: our team has hailed from sectors including start-ups, government, consultancies, investment banks, and nonprofits.

Across our global offices, our culture is candid, analytical, non-hierarchical, and fast-paced. We value ability, adaptability, and willingness to learn. We offer competitive salary and benefits, as well as performance-based bonuses.

About this role

As the Senior Manager, Lifecycle Growth, you’ll define and drive the roadmap for maximizing the cash we raise and deliver to recipients from existing major donors (GiveDirectly’s largest & fastest growing donor segment), building on the 6x fundraising growth we’ve seen since 2019.

In this role, you’ll own a significant amount of white space, identifying and testing new tactics, tools, and software to highlight distinctive GD operations and enable personalization at scale. You will partner closely with GiveDirectly’s senior leadership team and our largest external supporters, including folks like Jack Dorsey, Sundar Pichai, Mackenzie Scott, Stephen Colbert, and Ariana Grande.

GiveDirectly’s donors are curious, analytical, rigorous, data-driven and creative; a successful candidate for this role would share those traits. You’ll drive cross-functional projects involving finance, product, data, and operations, acting as the ultimate owner of retention and lifecycle growth for major donors. In this capacity, you’ll have the potential to raise hundreds of millions for people living in poverty, and define GiveDirectly’s growth roadmap as we approach $1B raised.

Reports to: Director, Growth

Responsibilities:

  • Define and execute GiveDirectly’s retention roadmap for high-value donors, driving a distinctive experience embodying GD’s values
  • Level-up and automate detailed donor journeys – identifying key milestones, generating event-based reminders or action items, developing tracking to measure ROI, and iterating based on results
  • Create differentiated and scalable personalized donor experiences – e.g., how can we ensure every donor receives a bespoke impact report within days of their donation being delivered, or has the opportunity to see GD field ops live (virtually or in person)?
  • Deepen and grow relationships with existing communities of supporters – tech/finance workplaces, the crypto community, networks of founders
  • Build tech-enabled process for identifying and graduating potential high-value donors who’ve given smaller amounts
  • Drive cross-functional clarity on ambitious strategic initiatives, including working with ops and finance to define project scopes with $100Ms+ capacity potential
  • Work closely with GiveDirectly’s leadership team to facilitate and grow the relationships they manage
  • Through all projects, build scalable, high-quality processes; rigorously analyze what works & doesn’t work; and reprioritize where necessary

We’re looking for candidates with:

  • 4+ years of professional experience in a fast-paced environment
  • Advanced proficiency manipulating data and performing calculations in Excel and SQL
  • Demonstrated track record of putting structure & applying creativity to ambiguous problems
  • Ability to scope, evaluate, and implement new software/platforms
  • Phenomenal written & verbal communicator (e.g., decks, docs, analysis, presentations)

  • Exceptional alignment with GiveDirectly Values

  • Bonus but not required: in-depth knowledge of the crypto world; in-depth knowledge of cash and/or effective altruism; experience working with tech/finance/consulting stakeholders

Why work at GiveDirectly?

At GiveDirectly, we work to ensure that you have everything you need to excel in your role and on your team, including:

  • A positive and supportive team with opportunities for advancement
  • A demonstrated commitment to helping all staff develop and grow
