The Role

We are looking for an aspiring, self-motivated, and target-driven fundraiser to play a key role in our ambitious and passionate Development Team.

Reporting to the Director of Fundraising in Europe, the Senior Individual Giving Manager will oversee, lead and deliver Mercy Corps Europe’s individual giving programme – including online and offline fundraising and legacy. They will manage multichannel and synced campaigns including all acquisition, retention and emergency campaigns, with the primary goal of building a sustainable base of unrestricted financial support for Mercy Corps. They will ensure superior donor care, and bring forth creative ways of engaging with donors based on their interests and giving trends, allowing Mercy Corps to stand apart from its peers.

Essential Job Responsibilities

STRATEGY

  • Lead and deliver a synchronised online and offline fundraising strategy within Europe – which includes acquisition and retention and emergency campaigns – ensuring alignment and coordination with the U.S. Marketing Team and the wider Development Team.
  • Manage the Emergency Appeal plan for on and offline fundraising and be responsible for its implementation, ensuring information is disseminated and all responsibilities understood.
  • Utilise data-driven marketing tactics to develop new, creative ways and approaches that motivate donors and supporters to engage with Mercy Corps and increase individual giving.
  • Work with the Fundraising Operations Team to provide consistent analysis of trends in Mercy Corps’ donor base to inform strategy and decision making.
  • Stay ahead of trends and development in the charitable sector, remaining abreast of innovations in approaches to individual giving.
  • Input into Mercy Corps Europe’s wider fundraising and communications strategies.

FUNDRAISING

  • Prepare the annual campaign and appeals schedule in line with strategy and budget, in coordination with the wider team.
  • Plan and oversee all aspects of the offline retention and acquisition programmes (including donor welcome, cash appeal cycle, newsletters and acquisition),
  • Be responsible for timely, effective and coordinated responses to worldwide events using effective appeal strategies to maximise income generation potential.
  • Oversee all aspects of the online programme including acquisition, retention and stewardship activities, currently including email, social media and pay per click (PPC).
  • Ensure the information across various Giving Platforms is up to date.
  • Ensure all fundraising materials are of the highest quality and in keeping with Mercy Corps’ brand, aims and objectives.
  • Represent MCE to a wide range of external stakeholders, including marketing agencies, external suppliers and other partners in a professional manner to maintain effective relationships.

BUDGETING AND REPORTING

  • Prepare the annual budget and income projections, for approval by the Director of Development.
  • Manage the invoicing process for offline and online to ensure spend remains within budget.
  • Present regular reports (min. monthly) on offline and online campaign performance to the Director of Development, providing analysis of results and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Provide the Director of Development with quarterly forecasts.

TEAM MANAGEMENT

  • Line management of the Senior Digital Fundraising Officer (Online) and Supporter Fundraising and Engagement Officer (Offline).
  • Support team members to manage their work plans and workloads to maintain team wellbeing and performance, providing information, tools and other resources to improve performance and reach objectives.
  • Promote accountability, communicate expectations and provide constructive feedback via one to ones and regular performance reviews.
  • Supervise, hire and orient new team members as necessary.

COMPLIANCE AND DATA PROTECTION

  • Ensure the confidentiality and security of donors’ personal information at all times. Take initiative in maintaining a high level of sensitivity and empathy when dealing with donors, colleagues and information relating to beneficiaries.
  • In conjunction with the Fundraising Operations Team, ensure that all offline fundraising activities are legal and adhere to industry best practice.
  • Input into the departmental fundraising Record of Processing Activities (RoPA) and risk register.

  • Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically
    to our beneficiaries and to international standards guiding international relief and development work, while actively engaging beneficiary communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our field projects.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Significant experience in offline and online fundraising (may be weighted in either direction but must have skillset to manage both).
  • Demonstrable leadership and management skills – able to set and prioritise goals, targets and workload for themselves and others
  • A demonstrable track record of managing and delivering income generation from high performing direct marketing campaigns across online and offline channels and experience of delivering effective stewardship journeys.
  • Strong budget management – developing and monitoring budgets and comfortable making projections.
  • Significant experience of running results, analysis and decision-making based on findings.
  • Knowledge of using CRM databases, Raisers Edge would be advantageous.
  • Working knowledge of UK charity law and data protection, Institute of Fundraising best practice and HMRC Gift Aid regulations.
