We are currently recruiting a Senior Major Donor Manager to join our Philanthropy team, to be based in the USA, ideally within commuting distance of the Washington DC office; this will be a remote based position.

About the opportunity

RI is excited to announce, we are searching for an experienced major donor manager, to join our expanding philanthropy team.

Working closely with the Head of Philanthropy and collaborating closely with colleagues across the organization, you will identify new prospective donors, and help devise strategy for major donor cultivation and stewardship in an expanding philanthropy team. You will manage an existing portfolio of major ad mid-level donors, predominately made up of High Net Worth Individuals (HNWI) and/or private family foundations .

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement thorough prospect research to create a new pipeline of major supporters
  • Create moves management plan of activities for both prospects and current supporters
  • Develop and implement series of cultivation events in the USA/UK/Europe to engage with potential supporters and promote Relief International’s work
  • Work across the organization to help develop compelling cases for support which will highlight Relief International’s work and need for funding
  • Work closely with the Individual Giving Manager to identify and cultivate mid-level givers
  • Devise creative and innovative ways to fundraise, ensuring best practice and compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines
  • Work closely with Communications team to hone compelling stories and case studies.

About you

You will have experience in prospect research, cultivation strategy and high-profile events management in addition to excellent account management.

You should be comfortable working independently and able to build strong relationships with RI’s existing Patrons and Council members as well as with other key external stakeholders.

A natural communicator, persuasive and ambitious, you should have an excellent understanding of the fundraising landscape in the USA.

You will bring the following experience and skills.

  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent experience.
  • Thorough understanding of Philanthropy in the USA
  • Ability to build strong relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven track record in securing five/six figure gifts from major donors
  • Experience of participating in designing and delivering high profile events, both online and in person
  • Excellent communication skills including presentation, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Superb organization, prioritization and time management skills with the ability to deliver to a deadline under pressure.
  • Up to date knowledge of charity legislation and philanthropy trends

Desirable skills – Experience of philanthropy in the UK/Europe/any other regions
