Job Description Summary:
Senior Legal Counsel will work closely with the Collections team.

Job Description:
PayPal is seeking a talented and highly motivated attorney to join its Legal Department as an addition to its U.S. Legal team.

The successful candidate will have the following specific qualifications and experience:

A demonstrated record of focused, strong and significant experience counseling clients in most, if not all, of the following practice areas, preferably in a bank or fintech environment:

  • debt collection laws, regulations and related legal issues at federal, state and local levels
  • creditors’ rights, preferably in a bank or fintech environment
  • payments law
  • debt collection licensing related experience

In depth knowledge and understanding of related core laws, rules and regulations with respect to the above practice areas, including: FDCPA, Regulation F, State and Local Debt Collection Law, TCPA, UDAPP, REG E, NACHA Rules and US Bankruptcy Code.

Practical, business minded, approach to counseling clients on legal risk and issues.

Outstanding written and oral communication skills.

Ability to effectively explain/summarize complex concepts to varying audiences.

Ability to focus both on attention to detail and the broader picture.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and to tolerate change and ambiguity.

Ability and drive to take ownership of projects and tasks and bring them to prompt and effective completion. Ability to work both in teams and independently.

Facility with a team-based approach and comfort with a flexible, agile environment that emphasizes collaboration and team performance.

Creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to stay calm under challenging circumstances.

7 or more years of substantive and focused experience practicing in the subject matter areas specified above either in-house, preferably in a bank or fintech environment, or at a law firm.

Juris Doctorate or equivalent degree. Admitted to a state bar.
