Here’s where you come in:

We’re looking for a committed Humanitarian Policy and External Engagement Advisor to join our global Humanitarian Policy & Advocacy team for a one-year temporary assignment (parental leave cover). This position sits within the External Engagement and Resource Development (EERD) division of global Disaster Management, reporting to the global Director for Humanitarian Policy and Advocacy.

As the Humanitarian Policy and External Engagement Advisor, you will focus on policy development, advocacy, external engagement, and support to field offices (through technical assistance and deployment) in contexts affected by humanitarian crises. You will provide thematic leadership to World Vision’s efforts on forced displacement, implements influencing strategies on food insecurity, and support the Geneva based Senior Director for External Engagement and Resource Development and other colleagues on localisation, humanitarian financing, and CAAC.

You will closely follow humanitarian policy developments in Geneva, representing the organisation at the working level, and actively engage in, contribute to, and support humanitarian dialogue and coordination. The position is based in Geneva, and deploys to humanitarian field operations for 20% of the time.

Requirements include:

  • Master’s in a relevant field e.g. law, development studies, international relations, business administration, social sciences or communications.
  • 5 years relevant professional experience with graduate degree or 6 years of relevant work experience without post-graduate degree.
  • Professional fluency in English (French desirable).

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Experience in humanitarian operations, ideally in a context of forced displacement.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current global humanitarian policy issues.
  • A sound understanding of International Humanitarian Law and knowledge of humanitarian standards, guidelines and tools an asset.
  • In depth understanding of civil society leverage points throughout the Geneva-based humanitarian community including strong familiarity with relevant UN and coalition processes.

Travel and/or Work Environment Requirement

  • The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time, including to humanitarian response environments
