What you can expect as a Senior Finance Specialist based in Italy, Poland or Hungary at Preferred by Nature:

As our Senior Finance Specialist, your pivotal role involves overseeing and managing financial procedures for agricultural projects, ensuring their effective implementation. You’ll be in charge of handling the finances, keeping accurate records, preparing financial reports, and sending out invoices to those who support us. Your role also involves keeping an eye on the budget, making sure we spend money wisely and reporting any differences promptly. You’ll work closely with our financial team and program manager to coordinate our financial plans and ensure everyone follows the rules. Your responsibility includes making sure we stick to the guidelines set by those who fund us and making sure expenses are reported correctly.

Your ability and willingness to learn and take on new tasks will play an important part in your first year with us, so here is what you can expect:

Within the first three months you will:

  • Use your general knowledge and good adaptation ability to quickly learn how to use our IT systems – Sales Force (operating system) and Finance Force (accounting system).
  • Acquire a comprehensive understanding of project procedures, gaining proficiency in project reporting methodologies.
  • Ensure a smooth and efficient transition by mastering the responsibilities of the current specialist, taking over key project tasks.

Within the first six months you will:

  • Perform financial analyses and provide timely updates to the Head of the Project Division for informed decision-making.
  • Proactively oversee projects, demonstrating independent collaboration and effective communication with funders/providers.
  • Coordinate with the financial team for timely and efficient payment processes.

Within the first year you will:

  • Drive continuous improvements in financial procedures and tools for enhanced efficiency.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to funders, occasionally assist external auditors, and review project reports under the Group Chief Accountant’s supervision.
  • Independently support at least three agriculture projects and contribute assistance to other internal projects as needed.

Important that you:

  • Have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in finance, accounting, or related field.
  • Have at least 5 years of work experience in a similar role within an international company, non-governmental organization (NGO), donor, or multilateral agencies.
  • Demonstrate very strong financial analysis skills, backed by extensive practical experience with financial tools, and high proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, macro development, etc.
  • Have an extensive background in collaborating with international organizations, NGOs, B-corps, or similar entities.
  • Have exceptional interpersonal skills, showcasing proficiency in analysis, negotiation, and communication.
  • Have proficiency in English, both written and spoken

Would also be great, if you:

  • Demonstrated ability in networking and negotiating with major corporations, private funders, and/or public donors.
