Position Summary

The Senior Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Manager role offers an exciting opportunity for an ambitious FP&A professional to contribute significantly to Mercy Corps finance function and support the rollout of the new ten year “Pathway to Possibility” organisational strategy.

The Senior FP&A Manager will provide a valuable contribution to all aspects of financial planning and reporting; forecasting, budgeting and highlighting performance issues. Reporting to the Senior Director of FP&A, s/he will work closely across the global finance team, which includes Corporate Finance and the International Finance team, who provide financial support through each stage of grant and contracts management, from proposal development and budgeting, to compliance and final reporting.

The successful candidate will be proactive, thoughtful and inquisitive, someone who has excellent data extraction skills but also has a clear vision of, and a passion for, the bigger end goal. Ideally, s/he will be used to working in an international environment and dealing with high value grants and contracts in the not-for-profit sector. The ability to build excellent relationships and business partner with the Executive team and budget holders across the organisation will be key to succeeding in the role

Essential Job Responsibilities

PLANNING AND ANALYSIS

● Lead financial planning and analysis in line with strategic vision set by senior management. Translate strategic vision into actionable financial plans.

● Lead and give direction to the budgeting, forecasting and long-term planning. Partner with Executive Team to develop budget and forecast presentations for the Board and Board subcommittees.

● Develop financial models and analyses to support strategic initiatives.

● Provide financial partnering and strategic support to leadership, including preparation of board presentations, and financial presentations to Executive Team.

● Provide coverage for Senior Director and lead agency FP&A when they are on leave.

● Develop agency costing methodology and establishment of agency costing policy including assessment of donor cost recovery.

● Play integral role in the transition of European finance team to agency finance system (Navigator), including analysis to support Chart of Accounts mapping.

● Support implementation of a new agency FP&A system including business partnering with budget holders to educate on the new process.

● Make recommendations on procedures, processes, and systems to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of finance function.

● Support the leadership team with in-depth analysis of complex financial information to provide timely recommendations to management for decision making on special projects and initiatives.

RELATIONSHIPS AND TEAM WORKING

● Build and maintain strong working relationships across the organisation at all levels, particularly with the Global Finance team, Budget Holders and the Executive Team.

● Communicate confidently with Budget Holders and present to Executive Team and Board members.

● Work collaboratively with colleagues to extract data and information across different platforms.

● Take an agile approach and provide senior management and colleagues with timely information and analysis to support decision making and strategic objectives.

Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders

Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work. Minimum Qualifications and Transferable skills

● Fully qualified accountant, or equivalent experience.

● Ideally 5+ years’ experience in an FP&A role, or comparable position.

● Depth of experience and advanced skills with MS Office, MS Excel, FP&A, and Accounting (general ledger) software is required.

● Knowledge of US government grant processes, procedures, and regulations is highly desirable.

● Demonstrable analytical and report-writing skills.

● Experience of working with non-profits in a multi-national organisation is strongly preferred.

● Exposure to working in a matrix structure and/or a consultancy environment would be an advantage.

● Experience of working in organisations dealing with high value contracts preferred.

● Technically competent with the ability to gain understanding of financial reporting systems including chart of accounts set up quickly.

● Experience of working with Serenic Navigator finance system (including Jet Reports tool) would be highly desirable. Experience of working with Infor SunSystems (including Q&A reporting tool) would be an advantage.

● Experience of working with cloud-based FP&A system such as Workday Adaptive Planning, Unit 4 or Vena would be an advantage although not essential.
