As a result of internal promotion, we have an opportunity for a Senior Financial Accountant to join our team in Head Office, Milton Keynes. Working as part of a small team, the role offers great opportunity for career development and chance to assist the Financial Controller with various tasks and projects. The position is based in Milton Keynes, but offers the flexibility of some days working from home.

Key areas of responsibility are:

  • Oversight of the monthly consolidated management accounts for the UK subsidiaries of the Group, including the consolidation of joint ventures and associate entities.
  • Ownership of statutory reporting and corporation tax for UK.
  • Lead on technical and complex accounting areas.
  • Main point of contact for external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Ownership of consolidated budget and forecast process.
  • Liaison with Group Finance on various matters.

Key Accountabilities include:

  • Lead on accounting for complex areas such financial assets under PFI/PPP long-term contracts (IFRIC 12) and provisions.
  • Prepare, co-ordinate and review management and statutory financial reporting, tax accounting and tax compliance for UK statutory entities (at least 10 entities).
  • Ensure knowledge on development and changes in the accounting standards, principles and frameworks (current and future) is obtained and assessed for impact to the business and is shared.
  • Support the Contract Controllers on technical accounting and reporting areas.
  • Assist, as required, in the summarising, review and explaining of variances and trends in consolidated reports: balance sheet, P&L and cash flow.
  • Ensure reconciliations are prepared and maintained for a selection of balance sheet nominal accounts and key P&L accounts to ensure the accuracy of the monthly accounts process.
  • Support the treasury and cash management processes which include monthly cash flow forecasts, quarterly re-forecast packs, annual budget and strategy packs.
  • Maintain files and working papers to support the periodic audit requirements of external audits and reviews.
  • Manage, coach and mentor an Accountant

Experience, Education & Qualifications Required:

  • ACCA or ACA qualified with previous experience in a large professional accountancy firm.
  • PQE, with experience of management of financial accounting records up to management and statutory level.
  • Technically strong in accounting under IFRS and UK GAAP (FRS 101 and FRS 102), including understanding of accounting under IFRS 16.
  • Experience in the preparation of formal statutory accounts.
  • Up to date corporation tax knowledge.
  • Exceptional attention to detail. and strong analytical ability
  • Ability to work consistently well under pressure, to prioritise and work to tight deadlines ensuring competing demands are met.
  • Demands high standards of themselves and others and can translate this into high quality, high pace output.
  • Good organisation skills and the ability to forward plan.
  • Excellent communicator with ability to influe.
  • Excellent communicator with ability to influence internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficient with MS Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel to other Renewi locations if required.
