The Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) is a program within the Aspen Institute. The Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) is a global network of organizations that propel entrepreneurship in emerging markets. ANDE members provide critical financial, educational, and business support services to small and growing businesses (SGBs) based on the conviction that SGBs will create jobs, stimulate long-term economic growth, and produce environmental and social benefits. Ultimately, we believe that SGBs can help lift countries out of poverty. Launched with 34 members in 2009, ANDE now comprises nearly 300 members who collectively operate in more than 150 countries.

ANDE is looking for a Senior Finance Manager, based in our Washington, DC office. This is a full-time position.

Position Description

The Finance Manager will report to ANDE’s Finance Director and is responsible for providing financial management and oversight across eight international offices and four US based departments. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working on donor funded projects in a non-profit setting. Expertise in managing a lot of complex Excel based tracking systems is required, as are superior organization skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.

Role Focus

  • Oversee monthly chapter financial reporting, manage fiscal reporting deadlines, review all bank account reconciliations, and ensure all expenses have been properly allocated.
  • Ensure proper accounting of all funding sources as well as monitor cash flow across 8 international chapters.
  • Oversee grant financial reporting, monitor grant spending and budget realignments.
  • Manage global labor allocations, ensuring all departments are tracking according to budgets and updating forecasts as necessary.
  • Supervise a team of four DC and global finance staff, provide guidance and training on accounting policies and procedures.
  • Manage updates to Excel based financial tracking spreadsheets as well manage updates to US reporting templates in Planful, the Aspen Institute’s financial planning tool.
  • Oversee dissemination of quarterly internal budget variance reports.
  • Work closely with Director of Finance to oversee yearly budget process.
  • Prepare budgets for proposal submission.
  • Manage development and updating of Finance & Accounting Manuals.

Role Experience

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Accounting and 7+ years of experience in Accounting, Finance, and Budgeting (Graduate level degree in Finance a plus)
  • Experience managing a team
  • Experience managing funding from development finance institutions and/or other US and other government funding (e.g., USAID, DFID, GIZ, GAC etc.)
  • Experience in grants accounting
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong budgeting and forecasting background
  • Experience using financial reporting tools such as Adaptive, Planful, or in-house budgeting tools
  • Experience in manipulating, analyzing, interpreting data, and communicating results to non-finance personnel
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and planning skills
  • Good interpersonal skills, as well as sound judgment, maturity and flexibility
  • Experience working with multi-currency international programs
  • Multi-lingual skills and/or multicultural experience appreciated
