MAGENTA is made up of five business units and three operating departments: Middle East & North Africa, Asia, Africa, Latin America & the Caribbean, the MAGENTA Lab, Corporate Services, Growth & Marketing and Technical & Programme. This role will be a key member of the Corporate Services department and will manage MAGENTA’s Financial requirements.

The Senior Finance Manager (hereon known as Manager) manages the financial strategy and systems at MAGENTA. The Manager provides financial analysis to the Senior Management Team in the areas of financial performance and financial compliance. The manager ensures financial regulatory compliance with donors, sound accounting, and daily finance tasks. The Manager also collaborates and provides strong business partnering to the Business Unit Manager and Growth Team to provide corporate or project level financial guidance as needed.

This position directly oversees the Accountant and Finance Associate positions, including training, performance management, and delivery of services. The Manager works closely with the Operations Manager to oversee the performance of the Finance and Operations Associates regarding the financial aspects of their positions. The Manager directly contributes to building a positive, service-oriented culture within the team, with strong business partnering with the regional teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial and Accounting Management

  • Analyses and presents financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements; collate financial reporting materials for all donor segments, and oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting.
  • Contributes to commercial negotiations with clients to ensure optimal business outcomes.
  • Provides quality control on financial proposals and project budgeting, especially by developing budgeting templates and building capacity of staff to prepare winning proposals and use budgeting tools effectively.
  • Coordinates and leads the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors; assess any changes necessary.
  • Oversees annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the CCOO; administers and reviews all financial plans and budgets; monitors progress and changes; and keeps senior management team abreast of the organisation’s financial status.
  • Manages organisational cash flow and forecasting.
  • Manages individual entity banking, including compliance with any host country requirements and reporting.
  • Implements a robust contracts management and financial management/ reporting system; ensures that the contract billing and collection schedule is adhered to and that financial data and cash flow are steady and support operational requirements.
  • Updates and implements all necessary business policies and accounting practices; manages the finance department’s overall policy and procedure manual.
  • Effectively communicates and presents financial data and status as needed.
  • Develops clear accounting procedures, including internal resources such as accounting manuals.
  • Contributes to integrating MAGENTA’s group level accounting, especially by working with appropriate external resources
  • Manages MAGENTA’s indirect rates, including NICRA application and management as well as consistent and compliant indirect rate management for entities without a NICRA.

Technology

  • Remains up to date on financial related technology, including accounting systems, reporting tools such as PowerBI, etc.

Financial Compliance

  • Provides quality control on group level operational and risk management functions, especially from a finance perspective to maintain corporate compliance (such as ensuring external audits are conducted in a timely manner and engaging external advisors as needed).
  • Provides quality control on contracts by providing a risk management review of terms and conditions and ensuring consistency with entity and group level financial policies.
  • Advises on financial issues related to maintaining MAGENTA entities.
  • Signing authority as needed.

REQUIREMENTS & COMPETENCIES

Education

  • Relevant degree from a top tier university required; Masters preferred

Experience

  • 5-8 years of experience in Financial Management including accounting and accounting software, reporting, budget management, etc.
  • Substantial knowledge of the international development and/or humanitarian sector, institutions and donors, and of compliance requirements;
  • Ability to work effectively, respectfully and successfully with governments, clients, partners and other stakeholders in complex settings;
  • Fluency in English;
  • Technological and software fluency, include Office 365 and accounting systems.
