YOUR POSITION WITH TNC

As a member of the Federal Campaigns Team, the Senior Federal Campaigns Associate helps design and implement federal policy campaigns. They serve as a link between The Nature Conservancy’s (TNC) state chapters and its North American Policy and Government Relations (NAPGR) team in support of federal policy priorities.

Essential Functions

As a member of the Federal Campaigns Team, the Senior Federal Campaigns Associate will help design and implement policy and political influence campaigns to further the Conservancy’s conservation priorities related to biodiversity and climate change. They may provide research, strategic campaign advice, policy development and policy analysis in support of TNC’s legislative and administrative priorities. In addition, s/he may track policies and decisions that directly affect TNC’s campaign and conservation goals. They help the outcome of legislative and administrative initiatives focusing at the federal level.

The Senior Federal Campaigns Associate will serve as a liaison and informational contact between NAPGR and state chapters and will coordinate with other policy and communications staff throughout the Conservancy. They may help engage Conservancy volunteer leadership and other partners in advocacy opportunities. The Senior Federal Campaigns Associate may serve as a point of contact to inform Conservancy partners and elected and appointed officials of Conservancy policy positions. S/he may organize grassroots efforts to mobilize constituents on TNC legislative priorities.

Our team’s expertise includes campaign development and implementation, grasstops stewardship, development of advocacy tools and trainings, event management, consultant and coalition engagement. The team also works closely with the U.S. Policy Communications team.

Responsibilities And Scope

  • Coordinate with policy experts to help develop and implement advocacy campaigns.
  • Coordinate with TNC state chapters on federal biodiversity and climate policy initiatives and priorities for the Conservancy, including interfacing with other departments and senior leadership as appropriate.
  • Facilitate meetings and communicate professionally with a wide variety of people from different cultures.
  • Ensure program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.
  • Ensure the program complies with federal lobbying laws and regulations.
  • Effectively manage strategic relationships and coalition building efforts to advance the Conservancy’s U.S. policy goals.
  • Engage with elected officials, staff, and partners on federal policy priorities.
  • Coordinate with many teams within the Conservancy and with broader partners to develop and advocate for legislative proposals.
  • Coordinate and liaise with consultants and other contractual partners.
  • Help develop outreach materials, manage logistics, and support advocacy events as needed for federal priorities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 4 years related experience or equivalent combination.
  • Fluency in English
  • Experience presenting to and/or communicating with business, government or legislative staff and/or program leadership.
  • Experience in designing, implementing and directing multiple complex projects and ensuring program accountability.
  • Communications experience including preparing and presenting project proposals, and developing written communications.
  • Experience working with corporate or NGO partners, and government agencies.

Desired Qualifications

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Master’s degree appreciated
  • Federal agency or congressional staff experience or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Experience with federal legislative policy development, outreach and implementation.
  • Experience with campaign development and execution at the local, state, or federal level.
  • Experience with organizing events and other logistical operations.
  • Familiarity with social, economic and political conditions and issues in the country (national and/or sub-national) and/or region.
  • Experience coordinating projects in a decentralized organization, working across teams, operating units and functions to achieve optimal results.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication, negotiating and organizational skills.
