Project Summary:
The USAID/Jordan Basic Education Activity will advance national efforts to strengthen the caliber of pre- and in-service teacher education and improve Kindergarten through Grade Three foundational and socio-emotional skills across the Kingdom of Jordan.
Position Summary:
The Senior Education Advisor will have overall responsibility for the quality implementation of technical activities related to strengthening pre- and in-service teacher preparation, improving learning outcomes in early grades, and educational system strengthening. S/he will provide evidence-based, timely, and responsive implementation leadership to the project to ensure program targets are met.
Responsibilities
Reporting & Supervision:
The Senior Education Advisor will report to the Chief of Party (COP) and supervise the education technical staff.

Lead the program’s basic education activities under the direction of the COP

Provide technical design, implementation leadership, and oversight to interventions supporting systems strengthening and teacher training that lead to improved learning outcomes

Contribute to knowledge management (KM) system design and organizational integration that provides results pertaining to system strengthening planning systems, EMIS, and improved performance management and accountability

Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) activities as they relate to systems strengthening and measuring educational achievements

Define needs for local and international short-term technical support as required

Maintain strong relationships and collaboration with the client and other implementing partners working on education system strengthening initiatives

Ensures that best practices are integrated from ongoing projects as appropriate

Provides management, leadership, mentorship, and supervises education technical staff
Qualifications

Master’s degree (or equivalent) in education or related field; PhD in education, system strengthening, governance, or related field highly desirable;

At least 10 years of education project implementation experience, preferably in Jordan or the region;

Technical expertise in pre- and/or in-service teacher professional development, curriculum development, or early grade literacy, numeracy, and SEL;

Experience in primary education system reform, education policy reform, and institutional capacity building from central to school level

Ability to work closely with host country governments and local organizations and stakeholders at national, regional, and local levels

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Professional proficiency in written and spoken English and Arabic

Strong team player and ability to mentor young professionals

Experience managing a diverse technical team

Ability to work in Jordan
