Senior Director/Technology Leader (IDG) – Remotely Based

We are seeking a Technology Leader (Senior Director) to advance and align digital technology and IT capabilities with our International Development Group (IDG) strategy and international development project needs. This position works closely with all IDG leaders, partnering to develop the strategic plan and roadmap for specific technology capabilities. This role will work with the business and partner to understand client needs, especially USAID, and develop strategic plans for new and existing services for greater international development impact. This position will be responsible for governing and coordinating strategic planning, embedded digital transformation staff, and digital resources to ensure the successful execution of RTI’s integrated digital technology strategy and IDG’s growth strategy.

Essential Duties

  • Lead the development of the IDG technology strategy and roadmap and ensure its integration with RTI-wide enterprise business strategy and plans.
  • Provide a single point of coordination and oversight for IDG level, cross-sectoral, digital initiatives, and transformation projects.
  • Advise and support IDG sector technology experts and teams on relevant RTI policies, guidance, sector best practices, and lessons learned” right underneath.
  • Partner with key stakeholders across the Institute, including the enterprise IT function, to create and drive the execution of the IDG-level technology strategy, data management strategy, and to identify the opportunities for differentiating digital capabilities and solutions.
  • Manage or matrix coordinate a team of staff skilled in and focused on business architecture, data security and management, technology project management, innovation, and product management, especially in and for low-resource settings.
  • Identify and evaluate IDG-internal digital asset capabilities and strengths and monitor IDG needs to ensure fit.
  • Assess Institute as well as external digital opportunities and threats as key inputs to making the best decisions on IDG technology strategy.
  • Partner with key internal and external stakeholders to identify and/or develop innovative digital business solutions that address IDG specific needs and to create a competitive edge for the organization.
  • Attract and facilitate external partnerships with private and public actors to accelerate the IDG technology strategy and roadmap.
  • Act as a champion and change agent, aligning executive level stakeholders around the organizational changes required to create and sustain digital capabilities.
  • Act as an internal and external thought leader on emerging digital business models and technologies, articulating the digital future and RTI’s role in it.
  • Foster an internal culture of teamwork, collaboration and integration that drives excellent service, quality, diversity of thought, an engaging work environment and overall performance improvement.
  • Attract and retain top talent and build digital capabilities across the unit and Institute in line with current and future needs; support talent acquisition and development for IDG projects.
  • Establish and manage effective relationships between business partners and embedded technology staff.

Education & Experience Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in business administration, IT, engineering, computer science, or related field. Master’s degree preferred. Ten or more years of progressive leadership experience, including leading cross-functional teams and enterprise-wide programs, operating, and influencing effectively across the organization and within complex contexts. Demonstrated experience working in international, low-resource contexts and designing and implementing technology solutions for diverse contexts. Experience with USAID as a client preferred.

Skills & Abilities

  • Deep understanding of the evolving digital landscape on both the demand side (how people/companies are using technology) and the supply side (emerging technologies) in diverse settings, including international environments with low connectivity and limited IT infrastructure, human resource capabilities, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven expertise in technology transformation and automation in international development and low-resource contexts.
  • Proven experience with customer-centric design and driving product development
  • Expert in IT strategic planning, communications, and financial management
  • Expert in IT governance formulation and organizational change management
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute long-range strategic plans
  • Ability to effectively drive business, culture, and technology change in a dynamic and complex operating environment, including developing country contexts.
  • Experience in project management, agile/scrum delivery models, and release management
  • Strong business acumen
  • Proven track record of successful team leadership and development
  • Proven track record of innovation, both in internal problem solving and in fostering innovative uses of technology in the organization
  • Strong customer and user experience focus, experience with USAID preferred

  • Maximum Salary: $222,000
  • Minimum Salary: $180,000
