Know our team

Nutrition International’s Program Operations Unit is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of Nutrition International’s core program interventions including program development, design, planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting, and grant management, including setting annual operational planning, budgeting, and review processes. The unit comprises a global team of professionals located in our 10 core countries across Asia, Africa and our headquarters in Ottawa, Canada. Currently, Nutrition International is seeking applications for a Senior Director, Program Operations to be based in Ottawa, Canada.

About you

You are someone with at least 15 years of experience in a senior management role for an international NGO or public sector agency preferably working in public health or nutrition. You have demonstrated understanding of results-based management, performance measurement frameworks and fundamentals of program monitoring and evaluation. You have diverse and significant field experienced in Asia and Africa as a country director, regional director, chief of party or similar. You hold a master’s degree in International Development, Public Health, or similar field.

Fluency in English is required. French will be considered an asset.

About the role

Reporting to Vice President of Program Operations, the Senior Director, Program Operations will be accountable for the high-quality delivery and grant management of core and non-core projects managed by the Operations team and that fund field work in Nutrition International’s regions and countries of operations. The Senior Director will also provide leadership for the improvement of management processes that ensure Nutrition International is fit for the future as our portfolio of new and more complex grants grows. This will involve working across units to ensure improvements in financial monitoring, technical quality control, reporting, and monitoring and evaluation.

In this role you will:

  • Overall leadership of a senior team of Global Program Directors based in Canada, Asia and Africa.
  • Provide strategic leadership, direction and priority setting to ensure that Nutrition International’s programs are effectively managed and delivered according to the contractual obligations of their donors.
  • Support Global Program Directors to put in place learning mechanisms such as ‘community of practice’ groups, meetings and workshops and other learning events.
  • Ensure the performance of Nutrition International program staff is effectively appraised in line with Nutritional International policy and procedures and that mentoring needs or training required to improve staff performance are identified and supported.
  • Working closely with the Regional offices and in collaboration with the Business Development team identify and prioritize opportunities for new grant funding.
  • Supervise a team of at least 5 globally based senior program management staff.
  • The position will require travel to Africa and Asia, including both India and Pakistan (up to 45 days).
