Job Summary:

This Senior Director of Development leads a portfolio of CARE’s corporate partnerships, leveraging our partners’ philanthropic, brand equity, talent, knowledge, networks and product assets. This position will broaden and deepen a portfolio of U.S. companies focusing on, but not exclusive to, innovation and technology, creating innovative engagements aligned with CARE’s mission, branding and multiplying impact agenda. Their portfolio will consist of established partners as well as dormant, nascent and emerging corporate prospects with the potential to grow. In addition to a revenue target, the SDoD will be charged with leveraging our partners’ core business, employee talent, consumer base and brand to further CARE’s goals. The SDoD will work closely with CARE program colleagues – both U.S.-based and in country offices, and will ensure that CARE is well represented in networks and meetings relevant to CARE’s programmatic interests. The ideal candidate brings some programmatic expertise, a passion for poverty-alleviation, and the ability to self-manage complex internal and external partnerships. Where appropriate, the Senior Director will be encouraged to work beyond 1:1 relationships toward multi-partner initiatives and support CARE’s work to building advisory services capacity.

Responsibilities:

  1. Partnership Management

    • The SDoD will manage a portfolio of corporate partners with an annual revenue target of $2.5 million. She or he will set strategy for each partnership and work with relevant stakeholders to maximize each partnership across multiple assets. S/he will manage all aspects of these partnerships, including outreach, strategy, and stewardship. S/he will work with colleagues across CARE USA, CI Lead Members and country offices at all levels to strategically indentify and support opportunities for engagement and then manage the ongoing partnerships. Portfolio to include emerging and complex corporate relationships where there are organization/business imperatives, CSR interests, brand synergies, employee engagement, policy influence and sector leadership. Building successful partnerships in this portfolio will require creativity, collaboration, and a soloutions-oriented mindset.
  2. New Business Development
    • In addition to managing a set of existing corporate partners, the SDoD will research, identify, and reach out to corporations new to CARE to build a pipeline for future support. Work closely with the Executive Director of New Business to align on opportunities, priorities and pitches and coordinate with CARE West Coast colleagues to leverage contacts, donors and advisors in pursuit of new partnership opportunities. This will include also responding to inquiries from new prospects, assessing potential, and managing engagement with a focus will be on companies working in innovation and technology, as well as others based on the West Coast.
  3. Network Building, Thought Leadership & External Representation
    • The SDoD will represent CARE externally in forums related to strategic corporate engagement. S/he will seek to position the partners in their portfolio for external recognition.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, international development, public administration or equivalent experience.
  • 7-10 years of experience in some combination of corporate fundraising, partnership management, program design/management; proposal writing; program advisory or international development field work.
