The sharp increase of humanitarian needs worldwide is putting the current humanitarian finance system under pressure. New ways to tackle and finance humanitarian challenges are needed and a top priority for the Red Cross Red Crescent movement.

The Danish Red Cross has for years been a pioneer designing and adapting financial instruments to humanitarian settings. We are now ready to take our work to the next level through the launch of a Humanitarian Innovative Finance Hub dedicated to the design and development of scalable financing models and tools for the whole of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement

We are looking for a director with a solid background in the financial sector to run the Hub. Can you picture yourself building up your own team of experts from all parts of the world to create, develop, integrate and scale-up new and renewed financing concepts, instruments and practices for greater humanitarian action?

In collaboration with your colleagues across the Red Cross Movement, you will be insufflating a sustainable change in the humanitarian financing system, which could make an impact for millions of people in need of humanitarian assistance worldwide.

Position description**

As Hub director, a selection of your tasks will be to:

Strategic partnerships:

  • Develop a strategy for the Hub in collaboration with the Steering Committee and selected stakeholders
  • Establish partnerships with a wide array of stakeholders across the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement (RCRC) and beyond to achieve the overall strategy and objectives of the Hub
  • Foster strong relationships with existing partners and identify new partners from financial sector, insurance companies, research institutions, etc.
  • Ensure an immersive, engaging, and productive experience for Red Cross Red Crescent National Societies and other stakeholders collaborating with the Hub

Designing and implementing scalable solutions

  • Inspire and co-develop innovative finance solutions (health bonds, social impact bonds, cat bonds, green bonds, debt swaps, impact investment, etc.)
  • Ensure implementation and upscale of the developed solutions

Management of the Hub

  • Ensure the efficient day-to-day running of the Innovative Finance Hub
  • Manage the team to hit financial and impact targets as well as encourage a collaborative and creative environment
  • Report to the Steering Committee strategically and to DRC (Danish Red Cross) on a day-to-day basis
  • Develop a sustainable financial plan for the Hub aiming for cost neutrality
  • Implement overall strategy and ensure progress with resource mobilization
  • Increase the RCRC Movement understanding of blended finance and the market opportunities for ESG-related tools

About you

We expect you to have the following qualifications:

  • Min 7 years of experience within the field of finance/ blended finance
  • A proven track record of designing and/ or implementing finance solutions
  • Excellent organizational and leadership capabilities
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills public (speaking/presentation and influencing skills)
  • Strong diplomatic and stakeholder management skills
  • Knowledge of the humanitarian sector

You have strategic and operational flair, and you effortlessly deal with different stakeholders and their agendas without losing sight of your organization’s objective. You work in a structured manner, and you take pride in delivering results. You can motivate and inspire your team to achieve the best results.

The international Red Cross and Red Crescent network is the largest humanitarian network in the world with a presence and activities in every country. All Red Cross and Red Crescent activities have one central purpose: to help those who suffer, without discrimination, whether during conflict, in response to natural or man-made disasters, or due to conditions of chronic poverty.
The Danish Red Cross HQ is in Copenhagen. You will work closely with the International Department and will refer to the Head of Global Partnerships. On a strategic level you will work with a steering group comprised of International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) and red cross/red crescent societies.
The Hub director position is a full-time position of 37 working hours per week
Salary and employment conditions will comply with Danish Red Cross’s collective bargain agreement with HK and AC and will be between DKK 47,500.00 and 49,500.00 including allowances and pension depending on experience and qualifications.
