The Opportunity

This is an exciting time at NetHope as the organization rounds a very successful 20th Anniversary year and has secured new, multi-year funding in support of a range of programming. Reporting into the Chief Operating Officer and collaborating closely with the team leads for NetHope Membership and for our corporate partnership portal, the NetHope Center for the Digital Nonprofit, the Senior Director, Field and Impact Programs will develop and execute NetHope’s field program strategy, co-create programming with NetHope Member organizations, and develop strong connections between field programs and NetHope’s corporate partners. NetHope’s longest running field program, Emergency Preparedness and Response, reports into this position, as do other programs that have the beneficiaries and programmatic participants of our Member organizations as the ultimate clients or points of service.

Senior Director, Field and Impact Programs

The Senior Director, Field and Impact Programs will oversee and manage the development, design, and execution of programs needed to support NetHope’s and its Members’ strategic objectives, working closely with Member organizations and their field teams around the world. The Senior Director will collaborate closely with the Fundraising and Development teams as well as the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) at NetHope to provide necessary programmatic and strategic content to help raise funding for field programs, developing materials, making external appearances, pitching, writing, and conceptualizing as may be required to ensure that program funding is at sufficient levels. The Senior Director, Field and Impact Programs will be responsible for all aspects of NetHope programs, including conceptualization, personnel and program contractors, Member engagement, execution, budget, and measurement and evaluation. This role will keep a close eye on emerging trends in international development and the use of ICT4D in these contexts to ensure that NetHope programs are relevant for our Members today and in the future.

The successful candidate for this position will be part entrepreneur who can work with the team to identify emerging high potential ideas across the NetHope community that can brought to scale. Successful candidates will also be part facilitative leader who understand how to germinate program ideas and lead them through to delivery through and across multiple departments, organizations, and sectors. This role will manage teams delivering in multiple geographies and must be prepared to manage for results under a variety of conditions and donor expectations. The Senior Director of Field and Impact Programs will manage not only for their and their team’s success, they will also support the success of the teams and Member organizations they must work closely with to deliver their work. Since NetHope works as a virtual organization, the candidate must be adept at working independently, and be a strong and clear communicator who can build highly functioning working relationships in a virtual environment across a range of time zones.

Specific responsibilities include:

Program Planning and Development

The Senior Director, Field and Impact Programs will have overall responsibility for NetHope field programs, including the identification of program opportunities, the development of concept notes and program design, engaging Members, donors and other supporters, and program execution and evaluation.

• Prepare annual program plans and budgets and provide ongoing evaluation of existing efforts; as needed, where necessary working with the CEO, Senior Leadership Team (SLT), Board of Directors, and a range of NetHope Members or partners to ensure alignment, clear benefit and clear strategic impact
• Work with institutional donors, foundations, private sector, and other funders to identify, develop, and procure funding for NetHope programs, and provide excellent grant reporting and communications throughout the program lifecycle.
• Work closely with peers in Membership and corporate partnerships to ensure that programs are appropriately positioned with Members, leveraging the involvement of corporate partners where relevant, attractive to donors, professionally administered, and effective in their impact

External Relations

The Senior Director, Field and Impact Programs will engage with Members, private sector supporters and donors, sub-grantees, governments, and other NGOs and multilateral organizations.

• Effectively represent NetHope Members’ interests and the NetHope mission
• Articulate both the impact of any given NetHope program, as well as the benefits of NetHope Membership and partnership to current and prospective Members, donors, and supporters

Management Responsibilities

The Senior Director, Field and Impact Programs will partner with the COO and Chief Administrative Officer to continuously improve program operations and alignment to NetHope overall strategic goals.

• Evaluate and improve NetHope’s program offerings and operations as needed
• Responsible for overall budget responsibility for the program budget, including budget development and forecasting, monitoring, and approving program budget spending, and identifying and securing program funding in partnership with other NetHope staff
• Recruit, hire, retain, develop, manage, and evaluate program staff and identify and retain needed contractors
• Engage with the SLT to ensure that the focus of NetHope programs remain on target with the organization’s mission while maintaining the culture that makes NetHope unique

Qualifications:

The Basics

• Multi-year track record of delivering successfully funded and evaluated projects in international development. Comfort and experience working at the intersection of technology/ICT4D and international humanitarian and/or conservation programming highly desired and will be prioritized.
• Ability to manage for results across geographies and thematic areas and experts, performing to exacting donor log frame expectations and reporting back accordingly
• An experienced leader on issues, manager of teams and coach of talent, working to ensure that NetHope is performing and succeeding at the level of the program and the level of the staff doing the work
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills with an ability to develop strong concept and pitch materials, manage reporting frameworks, and synthesize impact stories from multiple quantitative and qualitative data points to diverse stakeholders
• Multilingual verbal and written communication skills a plus

Education and Required Experience

• 10+ years of experience, with at least five years managing program development and execution across multiple geographies or business units with a global footprint.
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred, or equivalent work experience.
• Experience leading planning efforts and running operationally effective programs that span multiple areas (i.e., health, education, technology, training, etc.).
• Possess working knowledge of ICT, international humanitarian, conservation, and/or emergency response efforts.
• International nonprofit experience is required, with a strong preference for someone who has operated in a dispersed, virtual environment.
• NetHope uses a variety of technology to facilitate our work. You can expect to use Salesforce, Asana, Slack, Miro, Zoom and Microsoft Office extensively.

Successful candidates will have demonstrated experience in:

• Program development and management at a senior level
• Fundraising and grant development and execution
• Managing dispersed teams
• Budget development and oversight
• Managing others, empowering them to make decisions, especially in a matrixed or virtual organization
• Effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, the Board, or other outside partners/influencers/clients
• NetHope Member experience highly valued, other NGO experience a plus

Reporting and Working Conditions:

• This position is a full-time position that reports to the COO and works closely with other team leaders without whom this position cannot be successful.
• NetHope is a virtual organization, so our team, our Members, and our Partners are located around the world. Due to the global nature of the organization, meetings may be required at any time of the day to meet with our collaborators or team Members in varying time zones. To meet these needs, NetHope embraces flexible schedules for team Members, and we work with each other to be located globally, but still maintain a reasonable work time balance.
