Job Overview:

The Senior Development Manager is responsible for raising agreed upon annual financial and in-kind goals for the Atlanta office. Working in close collaboration with the IRC in Atlanta’s program staff and IRC Atlanta’s Development Director, the Senior Development Manager’s specific areas of responsibility and oversight include: donor relations, proposal writing, grants management and reporting, unrestricted fundraising, special events and volunteer coordination. The Senior Development Manager will represent IRC Atlanta to community, civic and faith partners, and individual and corporate financial and in-kind donors to support the organization’s fundraising efforts. In addition, the Senior Development Manager will collaborate with the Executive Director and the Development Director to craft and disseminate content to be used for internal communications and outreach efforts. This position supervises four staff and one AmeriCorps volunteer.

While sector specific experience is highly preferred, it is not a requirement. We are looking for an experienced resource development professional, people manager, and team player to support the IRC Atlanta’s Development Department to secure the resources needed to successfully deliver on the IRC’s life-changing, humanitarian mission.

Major Responsibilities:

Resource Development

  • Meet or exceed yearly fundraising goals for the IRC in Atlanta with the expectation that each years goals will increase over the previous year
  • Develop annual fundraising plans with specific and measurable goals and objectives for development of restricted and unrestricted funds
  • Implement strategies linked to the office’s fundraising plans to solicit new sources of unrestricted and private cash funding through the submission of proposals and other requests for funding
  • Research private funding opportunities and serve as the focal person for the development of new proposals and donor cultivation
  • Oversee distribution of donated in-kind goods to clients through the on-site donations room, ensuring efficient, productive service to clients
  • Ensure the Resource Development team works effectively to meet cash and in-kind matching requirements and maintains appropriate documentation for all resource development including cash donations, in-kind donations and volunteer hours
  • Organize annual fundraisers, donor appeals and other special events as applicable

Public, Volunteer and Donor Relations

  • Identify, cultivate and sustain individual donors through mailings, face-to-face donor cultivation meetings, community engagement opportunities, and other creative mechanisms
  • Ensure that all external written and verbal communications are 100% accurate, professionally written, and donor centric
  • Ensure that the IRC in Atlanta maintains an active, effective, professionally-managed volunteer program and continually recruits high quality volunteers to serve clients and programs
  • Coordinate with the Communications and External Relations Manager to assist in the creation of communications materials to engage current and prospective donors, deepen donor commitments and enhance giving
  • Conduct outreach and networking activities to recruit and educate potential donors, volunteers and constituents
  • Assist the Executive Director, Development Director, Deputy Director for Programs, and Communications and External Relations Manager in raising awareness about the IRC and representing the office at meetings, seminars and forums

Grants Management

  • Successfully increase the total grant funding in dollar amounts annually
  • Oversee the preparation of letters of inquiry, proposals, budgets and reports to private and public institutional funders to solicit cash funds for programs in collaboration with program staff and the Resource Development team
  • Maintain a grants management tracking and donor tracking system regularly updated with accurate data
  • Develop and ensure the effective maintenance of contract and grant files for each funded program with consistent documentation standards
  • Work closely with program staff and the Grants Coordinator to prepare interim and final reports to grantors
  • Liaise with the headquarters grants and business development staff on all new contracts, grants and sub-grants

Volunteer Services

  • In collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator, maintain and distribute accurate and up-to-date job descriptions for all volunteer and internship opportunities
  • Recruit, screen, orient, train and match volunteers and interns with appropriate service opportunities, in accordance with IRC national volunteer guidelines
  • Record and report all volunteer time and keep accurate, appropriately documented electronic and paper records of service time
  • Maintain individual files on all volunteers and interns, ensuring all required documentation is complete, accurate and on file
  • Respond to volunteer inquiries swiftly and keep volunteers informed about news and events
  • Hold regular check-in meetings with volunteers and interns

General Management Duties

  • Recruit, hire, train and supervise development-related staff, interns and volunteers
  • Meet consistently with the development team to plan and review team goals
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the Executive Director on status of resource development initiatives and provide timely reports on management issues and concerns
  • Participate actively on the IRC in Georgia and Florida’s Leadership Team and liaise with other program managers to ensure efficient collaboration with all departments in the delivery of quality services
  • Other tasks as assigned

Job Requirements

Education:

  • University degree (BA/BS) required; graduate degree in Development, Nonprofit Management or Business Management, or International Relations preferred

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years prior experience with fundraising, public relations, proposal writing, volunteer coordination and other development duties in the nonprofit sector
  • Proven experience with Salesforce preferred
  • Proven experience in team development and complex project management preferred
  • Proven record of foundation and donor relations and the successful development of grant proposals
  • Proven ability to conduct research through various sources to target and locate potential sources of funding

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with grantors, volunteers, partner agencies, government officials, multi-cultural clients and colleagues on all levels
  • Willing to pursue professional development opportunities utilizing both work and personal time to consistently improve position effectiveness
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (especially Word, Excel, Outlook) and internet research
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable access to an insured vehicle preferred

Working Environment*:*

  • The Development Manager position will be based in the Atlanta office, which is a standard office work environment.
  • Weeknight and weekend hours may be required, with flexible scheduling available.
