ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Senior Data Associate, Humanitarian Programs, will support and promote aligned qualitative data collection and analysis methodologies/tools across Internews’ humanitarian projects engaged with misinformation management. This role will onboard staff and partners to make use of our Humanitarian Information Dashboard (HID) — a data categorization and analysis tool which is a key component of our misinformation management approach. Additionally, this role will support administrative and operational functions related to data management tools and systems within the humanitarian team.

This is a remote-based position. Applicants based in any of the following locations will be considered: Bosnia and Herzegovina; France; Iraq; Kazakhstan; Kyrgyzstan; Liberia; Lithuania; Moldova; South Africa; Sri Lanka; Tanzania; Thailand; Zambia; Zimbabwe; the United Kingdom; or the United States. You must have work authorization in your location that does not require sponsorship from Internews.

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:

  • Provide administrative and operational support for maintenance of data management tools and systems, including maintaining contracts, agreements, and terms of reference for partners.
  • Act as a liaison with Internews’ technology for program specialists, IT team and consultants on HID maintenance and development.
  • Coordinate onboarding of humanitarian teams and partners on Internews’ qualitative data collection and analysis methodologies and approaches, including face-to-face data collection, focus group discussions and social media monitoring approaches.
  • Contribute to internal and donor reporting requirements and streamline HID analytics into reporting/monitoring processes.
  • Maintain KOBO data collection forms, including updating with lessons learned and adaptations from the field/partners.
  • Facilitate the transition of HID/data-related methodologies to e-learning, and maintain a library of accessible training, guidance and documentation on Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Support regular evaluation of the operational and programmatic effectiveness of the HID, including identifying key areas of improvement for impact and efficiency.
  • As a core member of the Humanitarian team, provide administrative and project support as needed across projects, particularly as they relate to the data-related systems and tools.
  • In all duties, an understanding of and demonstrated commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s in social science and/or data science-related field and/or 2-4 years’ experience in qualitative data collection and analysis in low resource and/or conflict-affected settings.
  • Proficient in KOBO Toolbox or Ona.io data collection software and tools.
  • Proficient in R, Nvivo, and/or Python.
  • Experience in designing tools and strategies for qualitative data collection, analysis, and production of reports.
  • Experience with Training of Trainers and/or capacity building for data collection in a variety of contexts and with limited experience.

Preferred

Note: Candidates who do not have these preferred qualifications, but are interested and willing to learn, are encouraged to apply.

  • Experience with social media monitoring, research, content management or analysis is a plus
  • Experience with development of database software is a plus.
  • Experience working for an international organization and/or the non-profit sector strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of French, Arabic or Spanish is preferred.
