This is a unique opportunity for candidates with expert knowledge in GIS, Remote Sensing and database management, as well as good knowledge of coding and software development to invest their skills in the “tech for good” space. The successful candidate will be able to use cutting edge technology to empower indigenous peoples and local communities of rainforest regions to claim their rights and protect their territories.

This role sits within The Rainforest Foundation UK (RFUK) Programmes Team which is responsible for the implementation of our projects. Our work is split into the following thematic areas:

  • Lands and livelihoods: including promoting community land rights, community-based forest management and land use planning
  • Monitoring and rights: including community forest monitoring and human rights and conservation effectiveness
  • Mapping and technology development: crosscutting use of technology to pursue our goals on lands, rights and sustainable forest governance.
  • Latin America: a geographically focussed programme integrating all thematic elements mentioned above.

THE ROLE

The postholder will have the primary responsibility to lead the Mapping & Development team and RFUK’s work on mapping, monitoring, deforestation analysis and overall use of technologies, ensuring that this work contributes to RFUK’s strategy and provides cross-cutting support to other programmes. In close collaboration with the Monitoring & Rights team, the postholder will guide the technical development of the ForestLink system and of the Mapping for Rights platform.
