Organizational Setting and Work Relationships

The Senior Communications Assistant is normally supervised by a Communication Officer or other position as decided by the senior management in the area of responsibility. The supervisor provides the incumbent with regular guidance. The incumbent will have frequent contacts involving the exchange of a wide range of information with colleagues within UNHCR as well as media, international organizations, academic institutions and private individuals.

All UNHCR staff members are accountable to perform their duties as reflected in their job description. Duties

  • Regularly monitor media and local situation regarding UNHCR.

  • Follow-up on administrative and logistical arrangements to organise press briefings and other events, such as workshop and conferences.

  • Contribute to the production of information materials for public awareness campaigns and for the preparation of in-house bulletins, newsletters and information kits by contributing to articles, reports and other information gathered from various sources.

  • Liaise with printers concerning brochures and publications published by the office.

  • Draft routine correspondence and texts for the office’s website and maintain information databases.

  • Compile and distribute a daily news clipping service.

  • Distribute press statements and similar information to media, to other offices locally as well as to Headquarters.

  • Maintain up-to-date filing system and appointments diary.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

For G5 – 2 years relevant experience with High School Diploma; or 1 year relevant work experience with Bachelor or equivalent or higher

Language Requirements

Nature of the Position

The Global Brand Unit collaborates across UNHCR to help build recognition of and familiarity with who we are and what we do. We are seeking a proactive team player with not-for-profit experience. Line managed by the Global Brand Manager, you will support the development of brand knowledge, confidence and creativity, helping UNHCR to deliver on its unique mandate.

Key duties, specific to this position:

Accountability

• Support the Unit’s specialist role in delivering expert global brand and brand marketing solutions for strategic challenges, and providing best practice counsel to colleagues across the organization.

Responsibility

• Help to bring UNHCR’s brand to life across all touchpoints.

• Day-to-day management of brand communities of practice.

• Project manage the production and dissemination of internal brand newsletters.

• Manage the Unit’s presence on internal communications channels.

• Contribute to the global brand strategy roll-out.

• Provide best practice brand and brand marketing advice to colleagues, freelancers and agencies.

• Support the creative development, project management and evaluation of cross-organization integrated brand activity in line with strategic objectives.

• Deliver brand training.

• Contribute to the development of long-term plans by identifying new opportunities and trends in not-for-profit brand and brand marketing practice.

Authority

• Use UNHCR’s Brand Hub to suggest creative brand marketing solutions and to deliver best practice brand support and advice.

• Access relevant information and reports to inform decision-making.

• Create and maintain positive working relationships throughout the organization.

Essential Minimum requirements for this specific role:

• Experience of managing not-for-profit brand, marketing, campaigns or internal communication activity.

• Experience of managing multiple projects at the same time and delivering to tight deadlines.

• Experience of using CMS systems, email/mailshot software and MS Office programs.

• Experience of delivering training sessions and presentations.

• Experience of using negotiation and persuasion skills successfully.

• Advanced-level English language copywriting.•

• Excellent communication skills.

Additional Relevant Skills:

Not-for-profit brand management or brand marketing experience
