As our team in the UK expands, we have created an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Bioinformatician to join our UK team. We are looking for an senior bioinformatician with experience in data wrangling and visualisation, extensive knowledge of bioinformatic databases, algorithm and pipeline development. They will have the opportunity to positively impact a broad spectrum of activities at the company to guide and further the work of our scientists. This individual will be comfortable at taking the lead on projects in a highly collaborative global work environment. For example, they will work on project to establish analysis frameworks, develop novel algorithms and report findings for our lead discovery and hit optimisation teams and support our oncology teams in identifying potential new targets for our proprietary Bicycle® peptide.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the development of informatics frameworks and applications to support hit finding and hit optimisation. 
    • Develop analysis frameworks and algorithms. 
    • Develop bioinformatics workflows and visualisations for protein sequence analysis and annotation. 
    • Design new software to disseminate functional assay data across multi-discipline teams.  
    • Develop algorithms and web apps for hit finding and optimisation. 
    • Help the Discovery team mine and visualise peptide sequencing data alongside functional data to enable information sharing between teams. 
    • Work with proprietary data platforms to enhance their function & capabilities e.g. better aligning/identification of sequence motifs, annotate sequences with information and generate graphical representation of data to aid interpretation. 
    • Generate actionable biological insights with reports or visualisations
       
  • Support new target discovery
    • Support the development of analysis frameworks and apply algorithms for new target discovery
    • Contribute to the analysis of multi-omics datasets and platforms beyond the above.
       
  • Support the development in-house web apps that deliver the above. 
    • Data wrangling and visualisation with propriety data sets and platforms beyond the above. 
    • Work across all scientific disciplines to understand their needs and requirements. 

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Extensive experience in bioinformatics, data science or equivalent.
  • Demonstratable experience in framework anaylsis and development
  • Hands-on programming experience in Python and / or R.
  • Experience in developing web apps / data visualisation applications and / or data visualisation software.
  • In-depth knowledge of proteins, cell or cancer biology.
  • Experience with analysing a variety of omics datasets, e.g. biomarker, phenotypic, lead discovery.
  • Experience with protein specific databases and applying bioinformatics tools to protein analysis.
  • Experience in sequence analysis (protein, peptide and NGS/Sanger genomic data sets).

Desirable:

  • Experience in a drug discovery or biotech/pharmaceutical environment.
  • Demonstrable experience in SQL.
  • Data interpretation and visualisation methodologies.
  • Knowledge in various statistics methods, prediction models and machine learning algorithms.
  • Experience with ELN software such as Dotmatics
