JOB BRIEF
The Senior Audiovisual Specialist (SAS) prepares, plans, operates, and breakdown audiovisual systems to support USIP in-house and third-party conferences, meetings, and events. This position is based in Washington, DC, and reports to the Audiovisual Manager. The SAS performs as a mentor and trains junior staff and will lead when the Audiovisual Manager is not available in support and part of the Event, Production, and Protocol Department.

TARGET SALARY RANGE

Grade 11- $74,000 – $77,000

The Institute uses the General Schedule salary tables for administering compensation. Offers are determined based upon candidate qualifications, related experience, internal equity, and the amount budgeted for the position.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Serve as one of the Institute’s authorities in all matters pertaining to technical hardware and software support for audiovisual presentations.
• Serve as the Institute’s authority in matters pertaining to technical audio engineering solutions for audiovisual presentations.
• Ensure audio equipment connection, soundboard setup/configuration, and other testing is completed prior to events.
• Operate the soundboard during productions and events (live, taped, and virtual).
• Provide technical advice regarding capabilities and limitations of audiovisual hardware, software, and equipment.
• Provide technical expertise in research of and setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining state-of-the-art audiovisual systems including audio (analog, digital, and IP based, including Dante), video (NDI), and projection systems.
• Interpret customer requirements for audiovisual capabilities and recommends types of media for optimum effectiveness in specific facilities, events, and situations.
• Provides excellent customer service to the Institute and third-party clients.
• Store, organize, clean, and maintain audiovisual equipment in all audiovisual storage closets.
• Collaborate with the Audiovisual Team to determine the requirements for equipment resources, to efficiently support the technical needs of the Institute.
• Provide computer setup and software support in smaller conference rooms (Zoom, Skype, PowerPoint, etc.).
• Review daily Banquet Event Orders (BEO) and ensure that the Audiovisual Services calendar accurately reflects the equipment required for current and upcoming USIP events.
• When requested, attend event logistics meetings, BEO review meetings, and third-party event site visits.
• Provide digital editing of meeting audio and video recordings.
• Provide transcoding and archiving of various audio and video formats.
• Transport audiovisual equipment for setup and breakdown for events.
• Set up, operate, and strike audiovisual equipment for a variety of Institute and third-party events, including the tape down and dress of all loose audiovisual cables.
• Perform repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms and work with systems and equipment in hard-to-reach places safely and efficiently.
• Research for system and procedure upgrades where possible.
• Trouble-shoot audiovisual system problems when they occur and maintain a record of service problems.
• Maintain accurate inventory of audiovisual consumables, hardware, and software.
• Work directly with service contractors for outsourced repairs.
• Inspect all audiovisual setups prior to an event to ensure that all systems work properly.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree with training emphasis in audiovisual technology and communications or equivalent experience in a related field is required.
• Minimum of five (5) years of related experience required.
• Video editing certification i.e.: Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro is preferred.
• Must have knowledge of centralized IPTV platforms i.e.: Mediacast, Mediamaster.
• Must have knowledge of integrated audiovisual control systems i.e.: Crestron.
• Must have extensive knowledge of audiovisual
• Must have the ability to problem-solve, strategize, and handle multiple tasks.
• Must have the ability to collaborate and work cooperatively and strategically in a team environment with all levels of professional, technical, and administrative staff and to integrate resources on a timely and organized basis.
• Must have excellent writing and communication skills.
• Ability to lift, carry, and set up equipment that weighs up to 50lbs.
• Must be able to walk or stand for long periods of time while serving during events.
• Have the ability for standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and working in tight uncomfortable positions to perform the positions required responsibilities.
• Be able to climb ladders and work in areas within ceilings or on walls.
• Work within a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the events schedule.
• Must have expert knowledge in planning, setting, operating, troubleshooting, tearing down, and maintaining professional-grade audio systems.
• Must have intermediate knowledge of audiovisual systems bench repair and soldering techniques.
• Expert ability to operate complex audio/visual systems integrated with video conferencing, projection, audio, recording, playback, and remote-control devices.
• Excellent time management and troubleshooting skills.
• Must be experienced in operating audio and video editing software, including digital signal processing and effects.
• Must have expert knowledge in reading and interpreting audiovisual as-built design documents.
