KIT Royal Tropical Institute has a vacancy for Senior Advisor M&E for Social Impact for 32 to 40 hours a week. The department of Sustainable Economic Development and Gender comprises an international team of 36 advisors working to improve the performance of programmes, companies and organisations that pursue sustainable and inclusive development. The main fields of work of the unit are Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL), Inclusive Food Systems, Responsible Agribusiness and Gender. The M&E for Social Impact team is one of the four teams in this department. We offer strategic, tailor-made advice based on data and evidence to help our development partners manage, evaluate and improve their impact. We do this through shorter assignments, such as impact evaluations, applied research, or advisory services, and through long-term partnerships with implementing organisations. The team consists of 11 advisors with a strong quantitative research background and with a diversity of thematic expertise.

The work takes place majorly at KIT’s office in Amsterdam but also, from home or other places when necessary. It will eventually require travelling for short assignments to different low and middle-income countries (LMICs). Our organisation’s working language is English.

As a Senior Advisor M&E for Social Impact , you’re responsibilities are:

We seek a senior advisor to strengthen the M&E for Social Impact team. As a Senior Advisor you are expected to take the intellectual lead and be the responsible person for the implementation of complex assignments and for managing (multi-country) project teams while navigating complex environments and competing demands. Simultaneously, you must act as ‘quality assurance’ for the delivered services. Maintaining an extensive network of clients, partners and donors is key to this position, as you are co-responsible for acquiring work the team. We work in project teams, which means that sharing knowledge and expertise, as well as creating opportunities for team participation is important. You keep an eye on the well-being of your colleagues and seek to support their professional development. You are eager to engage in strategic and profiling activities for the team and for the organization.

About you

  • A minimum of ten years’ experience in developing and implementing project M&E systems, policy and project (impact) evaluations, and evidence-based program advice/design.
  • Well-developed Dutch and/or international network for project acquisition.
  • Thematic background in inclusive food systems, agriculture, rural resilience, agri-food value chains, responsible business conduct, inclusive finance, gender or other development themes relevant to sustainable economic development.
  • Experience in impact evaluation, including a sound understanding of quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods.
  • Experience in writing reports and communicating findings in accessible language and readable style.
  • Fieldwork experience in (a) developing country(s) with ability to travel for short missions.

Skills

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with team members and external clients; ability and interest in coaching and supervising junior and medior advisors. You can provide examples of coaching and supporting (junior) team members and in their professional development.
  • Proven project management skills, including budgeting and financial control.
  • Understanding of applied statistics/econometrics (parametric and non-parametric tests, power calculations, linear regressions, difference-in-difference, propensity score matching).
  • Fluency in English is required. Professional proficiency in French is an advantage.
  • Experience with analysing large data sets is an advantage.
  • Good working knowledge of Stata and/or R is an advantage.
  • Experience with ODK is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of database structures and organization of data (data dictionaries, indexing, unique identifiers) is an advantage.

  • A salary based on qualifications and experience between € 4.723, – and € 5.678, – gross per month for a 40-hour working week, 8% holiday pay and admission to the ABP pension fund foundation;
