KIT Royal Tropical Institute has a vacancy for a Senior Advisor Agriculture and Seed Systems with the inclusive food systems team. The Inclusive Food Systems team works at the nexus of agriculture, food and nutrition. Specifically, we collaborate with national and international NGOs, local and national governments in low and middle-income countries and the private the private sector to generate and apply knowledge for seed sector development, agricultural innovation and extension, resilient agricultural livelihoods, and food systems. The team comprises of 11 advisors, which we would like to reinforce with the addition of a motivated Senior Advisor Agriculture and Seed Systems.

Your responsibilities are

  • Offer international advice and applied research services in international seed sector development;
  • Contribute to further development of the seed sector development portfolio of KIT;
  • Offer technical assistance to agricultural development projects;
  • Lead and contribute to the documentation and communication of experiences of KIT agricultural development projects and programs;
  • Participate in the evaluation of agricultural development projects;
  • Lead and contribute to proposal writing and acquisition.

About you

  • An MSc in agricultural sciences or rural development and a solid technical background. A PhD is highly desirable;
  • At least ten years of practical experience in agricultural development;
  • Experience in seed sector development;
  • Proven writing and publishing capacity;
  • Previous experience as a senior advisor in international development is an asset;
  • Project acquisition, planning and management experience;
  • Collegial attitude, capacity to work within a diverse team and to maintain good working relations with global partners;
  • Fluency in English. A professional working knowledge of French or Portuguese or is an asset;
  • Ability and willingness to travel for short missions on a regular basis.

What do we offer?

• An interesting and diverse working environment, within a unique organization;

• A starting salary based on qualifications and experience between 4.999, – and 5.678, – euro gross per month with a max growth to 6.074,- euro for a 40-hour working week, 8% holiday pay and admission to the ABP pension fund foundation;

• The initial contract is for 1 year, with the possibility of extension after demonstrated good performance;

• Approximately 25 annual vacation days plus 13 ADV days (when working full-time);

• A workplace in a historic building in the heart of Amsterdam, with the option of working from home;

• Travel allowance; NS-Business card or kilometer allowance, and bicycle plan.
